Today July 1, 2013 Dave Guskin spoiled Chandra, Pyromaster, one of the newest “Magic: The Gathering” cards from Wizards of the Coast’s upcoming “Magic: 2014 Core Set” in an article on DailyMTG.com. This powerful red mythic rare planeswalker is sure to be in fiery hot demand, and joins Garruk, Caller of Beasts as one of two brand new planeswalkers in the set.
Chandra, Pryomaster – 2RR
Planeswalker – Chandra (Mythic Rare)
+1 Loyalty: Chandra, Pyromaster deals 1 damage to target player and 1 damage to up to one target creature that player controls. That creature can’t block this turn.
0 Loyalty: Exile the top card of your library. You may play it this turn.
-7 Loyalty: Exile the top ten cards of your library. Choose an instant or sorcery card exiled this way and copy it three times. You may cast the copies without paying their mana costs.
Starting Loyalty of 4.
Red mages delight: There’s finally a red planeswalker worthy enough to craft a deck around (sorry Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded). Chandra Pyromaster marks the fourth different printed version of Chandra.
- Chandra Nalaar
- Chandra Ablaze
- Chandra, the Firebrand
- Chandra Pyromaster
Chandra, Pyromaster’s first ability pings your opponent, recurring Chandra’s Phoenix in the process, taking out small creatures like Elvish Mystic or preventing your opponent’s Loxodon Smiter from blocking your attackers.
Chandra, Pyromaster’s second ability screams value. While it isn’t as powerful as “draw a card,” it effectively works as such fueling the fire of your burn deck.
Chandra Pyromaster’s third and ultimate ability is a doozy, digging deep into your deck for any instant or sorcery spell and copying it three times. Even simple burn spells like Flames of the Firebrand can become game ending. How about something a little more sinister? Thounderous Wrath will make your adversary explode into flames. There’s a plethora of options to explore.
If Chandra, Pyromanster wasn’t good enough on her own, she can “level up” once you’ve acquired a Pyromaster’s Gauntlet or two on the battlefield.
How will you use Chandra, Pyromaster?
