Channing Tatum is known for having a body that is admired by many, but he says he’s looking for a movie where he doesn’t have to worry about his physique and can over-eat like a “fat kid.” An interview with Tatum is in Cosmopolitan’s July 2013 issue, which goes on sales on on U.S. newsstands on June 4, 2013. On May 30, 2013, the magazine released excerpts from the interview with Tatum.
Tatum told Cosmopolitan: “I’m a fat kid on the inside. I love food so much, and I fluctuate about 25 to 30 pounds between movies. I feel like I have to do a chess movie that requires very little movement at some point, just so I can eat pizza and play chess on the beach all day. And then eat more pizza and cheeseburgers and drink beer. That’d be amazing. I’d give anything for that. I gotta figure that movie out.”
Tatum’s career is on a hot streak, thanks to his starring roles in several hits. In 2012, three of his movies each did more than $100 million at the U.S. box office: “21 Jump Street,” “The Vow” and “Magic Mike.”
In 2013, he’s likely to repeat that blockbuster success. Tatum had a supporting role in the hit “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” He and Jamie Foxx star in “White House Down” (due in U.S. and Canadian cinemas on June 28, 2013), which is also expected to be a blockbuster.
“21 Jump Street” (a comedy inspired by the dramatic TV series of the same title) was the No. 1 movie on demand in 2012, according to Rentrak. “The Hunger Games” was No. 2.
In his interview with Cosmopolitan, Tatum said of “The Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence: “I wouldn’t mind being the male Jennifer Lawrence. I think she’s incredibly cool.”
Tatum and his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum (whom he co-starred with in the movies “Step Up” and “10 Years”), are expecting their first child in the summer of 2013. The couple has been together since 2006 and got married in 2009.
Tatum commented on how he and his wife have maintained a great relationship: “You have to want it. Jenna’s and my thing is checking in with each other all the time, like ‘On a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you love me right now?’ And you gotta be honest, and you’ve got to want an honest answer.”
And even though Tatum is a bona fide movie star now (and he has joined the ranks of those who’ve been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive), Tatum said that he’s going to remain down-to-earth: “My friends keep me grounded. It’s embarrassing to tell you how much my friends make fun of me. Seriously, when you have a doll made of your face, it’s ridiculous how creative your friends can get…pictures, videos, little animated cartoons they’ve made. And they’re way, way not PG-13. So I get chopped down to size all the time.”
June 2, 2013 update: Us Weekly reports that Tatum and his wife’s first child was born in London on May 30, 2013. The name and sex of the child have not been made public yet.
June 4, 2013 update: This announcement was made on Tatum’s official website: “Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Channing Tatum are thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter, Everly Tatum, who was born on May 31st in London.”
