Last night’s episode of “Chef Roble & Co.” was titled “Hoop Dreams Dinner.” As the episode opens, Roble’s sister Jasmine is talking to her mother via the computer. She is excited because Jasmine’s son will be graduating from high school soon. Jasmine tells their mother that Roble’s new assistant may have a crush on Roble. She also confesses to her mother that she is having a problem with Artie, although they have been friends, she feels that he does not want her there and disregards her opinion. Her mother suggests that they go out to dinner and discuss their feelings. When Roble comes in, he tells Jasmine that he overheard her conversation about Artie. Roble stays out of employee drama and suggests she deal with it herself.
He tells her he just received a call from Tyson Chandler’s people. Tyson plays for the NY Knicks, and they will be catering an event for him. Roble will not be surprised if half of the Knicks will be there. Tyson will be in town today, and he wants both she and Artie to meet with him.
Roble meets with his sous chef, Adam and talks to him about opening a restaurant in the future. As Adam is making a new drink creation, they toast the idea.
Artie and Jasmine met with Tyson Chandler and his agent Jaymee on Tyson’s awesome balcony with a view of Manhattan that was mesmerizing. Tyson has been honing his photography skills and wants to have an event to showcase his photographs and auction them off for UNICEF. The event budget is $56,000, and they want a gallery setting. He wants the food to be an expression of his journey and would like finger food, something you can grab and look at the photos. The event will also take place on Tyson’s birthday, and a private dinner will be held with his family immediately after the auction. So they will be doing the cocktail reception and the dinner. As a fellow artist, he does not want to handcuff anyone in this endeavor. So they checked out his apartment, where the entire event will take place. Jasmine is annoyed because Artie continues to put his two cents into her part of the event.
Two days before the event, at the prep kitchen, Roble and his assistants are preparing. Dan, Roble’s personal assistant is wearing a colorful pair of pants, and Roble tells her it looked like she was puked on by a rainbow. He kids with her like she was his sister. The preparations are coming along; Tyson Chandler wants street food, and Roble eats street food all the time. Roble conferred with Tyson’s wife, Kim and found out his favorites for the birthday dinner. Adam confided in Kiku that his recent beau was moving back to Los Angeles. As Roble and his gal pal Shelby are talking, he tells her about the Tyson Chandler event, and she confesses that she had a crush on him, so he invited her along. He confesses to her that he has been pressured to open a restaurant and decides to open a pop-up restaurant and invite food critics and people in the food industry to check it out.
Artie and Jasmine are out after hours to talk business. Both of these type-A personalities are finding it hard to acquiesce to each other. As the conversation proceeded, both felt about each other in the same way. Both had feelings that the other one did not like them.
Back to the preparations for the event, as things are coming along well, the kitchen staff is on Adam’s case because he is not excited about the basketball event. It is just an event to him, and the staff jokes that he would be happier hosting an event for Stephen Hawking, but he says that he barely passed science in high school.
Four hours before the cocktail party, the crew arrives. Preparations begin, and all stations are manned. Roble knows that there will be many celebrities there, and this could turn into many more events for his staff. Now Jasmine and Artie are back in sync, and all is coming together well. Tyson’s birthday cake is a huge camera that was requested by Tyson’s wife Kim.
As the celebrities arrive, Michael Strahan, Amar’e Stoudemire, Jason Kidd, Carmelo Anthony and Patrick Ewing are among the guests of honor along with a host of other celebrities. The photos are awesome and
The menu for the cocktail party includes: jerk chicken, chili shrimp tacos, mini hot dogs, gyro hors d’oeuvres. The cocktail party winds down and in a half hour, the birthday party begins to take form. As the scenery is moved around, the dinner table is in view. The dinner-party menu consists of a seasonal autumn salad, but it is taking forever to plate it perfectly, and guests are starting to be concerned. As the servers are getting antsy, Roble tells them to calm down and when it is ready, it will be ready. The entrée is a choice of a grass-fed filet mignon or organic roasted chicken breast. For the dessert, Kiku made a molten chocolate cake, and it is taking exceptionally long. The timing for this event has been off since the dinner started. Kiku and Roble are disagreeing. Because the molten cake was a surprise, they decided to scrap it and cut up the camera cake instead. The party was a huge success, but behind the scenes, it was a disaster. If things do not change, there will be more problems in the future with “Chef Roble & Co.”
