Wednesday night’s episode of “Chef Roble & Co.” was titled “Food of the Future.” As the episode opens, Roble’s sister Jasmine meets up with Kiku, the baker at a nail salon where they are having pedicures. At their last gig, her molten lava cakes failed and she and Roble had a loud discussion, where he had the last word. He truly hurt her feelings, by swearing and yelling at her in front of the crew. Jasmine recalls that Roble used to treat her the same way. Kiku and Roble have been friends for a long time, but now it seems like they are more boss and employee and Kiku feels that she is losing a friend.
Roble met with Artie to discuss his restaurant idea of calling the place “Deuces” where only couples could eat there. Artie does not believe that it is such a great idea. Artie wants to discuss the Tyson Chandler party, because he feels that it was just short of a disaster. Roble knows that the client was happy, but Artie knows differently. The food was not on time, and Roble was not his cheerful self.
They went to meet up with Matthew Waldman, founder and chief designer at Nooka, maker of fashionable watches and accessories. Roble and Matt have been friends for years, and he wants to have an event to spotlight technology and design. He wants the event to have a feeling of the future, the way his designs signify the future, not the present. The food must be flawless and perfect. When Artie hears those words, all he can do is grimace because the last event was neither flawless or perfect.
At Roble’s apartment, Jasmine answers the door for Dan, Roble’s assistant. She has a big crush on him and he knows it and plays it up.
At the prep kitchen, Roble sees Kiku looking over recipes, and although she is upset with him, tries to remain a professional. He is still upset with her too. She disappointed him and said that her failure in the Tyson event is almost unforgivable. Roble is scrambling to find futuristic food; he has no idea what food of the future will be. He decides that he will present food in a way that people have not seen it presented before.
Adam will be making miso soup in a bubble. The salad will be called earth because it will look like it was just pulled from the earth. Tuna will be served in a cool dish, and ravioli served in a tin can that he will call rations. For dessert, they will put custard in a tube, then the guest will squeeze it onto an anti-grill, that will freeze it immediately so they make their own ice pop.
Jasmine and Artie checked out the New York Hall of Science, for a futuristic venue. In the event room, the walls are one hundred feet high and all colored glass. They called Matt, and he thought it was awesome.
At the prep kitchen, Roble made a joke that he was gonna fire Kiku; she did not think it was a joke, as tensions have been high between them, so she called Jasmine in tears. Roble has been shaking her confidence, and has her this close to quitting.
As they are working into the wee hours preparing food, Roble calls his girlfriend, Shelby to tell her that he has to cancel for their date.
When Kiku arrived, he sat with her, and they tried to hash it out. He did apologize for yelling at her in front of the crew, but would not promise that if things went wrong in the future, it could happen again.
As the venue was taking shape, the servers had their hair dyed different colors and wore futuristic clothing. When Matthew arrived, he did not like the floral centerpiece. Artie did not like it either, but did not tell Jasmine.
As Kiku was about to make the desserts with the anti-griddle, there was a slight glitch, as the griddle was not working properly, at first. Then it was a big hit, and everyone enjoyed this innovative dessert.
After the party was over and the crew was cleaning up, they started dancing. Dan tried to get Roble to dance with her, but he would not have it. Then she kissed him as the scene closed on this episode of “Chef Roble & Co.”
