Former “X Factor” U.K. finalist Cher Lloyd has teamed up with Nokia for a social-media promotion in which winners can win tickets to a select number of Lloyd’s concerts in the U.S., as well as merchandise or albums that have been autographed by Lloyd. Nokia made the announcement by press release on May 28, 2013.
According to the press release, “Lloyd will announce the tweet-to-reveal giveaway and encourage her fans to participate by visiting www.cherlloyalty.com. The branded microsite will include a digital clock counting down to the start of the first tweet-to-reveal ticket giveaway. While waiting for the clock to hit zero, fans can tweet using #CherLloyalty #Entry for a chance to win from Cher Lloyd.
“As of May 30, 2013, www.cherlloyalty.com will include an aerial map of the area where the next Cher Lloyd show will take place. Fan tweets using #CherLloyalty will incrementally zoom in on the map to reveal the location of a specific location where fans can pick up their tickets. Once the location is revealed, the first five consumers to arrive at the store will win a pair of tickets with a meet and greet to the Cher Lloyd show that night. The tweet-to-reveal giveaway will be replicated daily for all five concerts taking place from May 30 to June 2 … Fans will also be able to access a special playlist, curated by Cher Lloyd exclusively for Nokia Music.”
As previously reported, Lloyd is on a summer 2013 tour of the U.S.
Here are the concert dates that are affiliated with the Nokia promotion:
May 30, 2013: Trenton, N.J. — Sun National Bank Center
May 31, 2013: Wilkes-Barre, Pa. — F.M. Kirby Center (KRZ radio concert)
June 1, 2013: Syracuse, N.Y. — WWHT Mall event
June 2, 2013: Wappingers Falls, N.Y. — Dutchess Stadium (12 p.m. EDT)
June 2, 2013: Awagam, Mass. — Six Flags New England (6 p.m. EDT)
Lloyd came in fourth place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010. She is signed to Sony Music’s Syco Music/Epic Records.
Her first album, “Stick & Stones,” debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 chart in October 2012, but the album has not yet been certified gold in the United States. The biggest hit from the album is “Want U Back,” Lloyd’s first U.S. single, which reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has sold 2 million copies in the U.S.
“Want U Back” has also been a top 40 hit in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Japan.
It remains to be seen if Lloyd can overcome her “one-hit wonder” status in the U.S.
Her second U.S. single, “Oath” (featuring Becky G.), flopped; it peaked at No. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her third U.S. single, “With Ur Love,” is an even bigger bomb, since it failed to make it on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “With Ur Love” was a No. 4 hit in the U.K.
It’s not as if Lloyd has disappeared from the public eye. Lloyd’s first U.S. concert tour is a continuation of numerous radio, TV and other promotional appearances that she has done since 2012 to promote “Sticks & Stones.” In 2012, Lloyd performed on several U.S. TV shows, including “Today,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “The X Factor,” “Dancing With the Stars” and “America’s Got Talent.”
More recently, she was a nominee and performer at the 2013 Radio Disney Music Awards on April 27. Her guest appearance on the Nickelodeon sitcom “Big Time Rush” premiered on May 9, 2013.
As previously reported, Lloyd is featured on the Demi Lovato song “Really Don’t Care,” which is on Lovato’s fourth album, “Demi,” which was released on May 14, 2013. “Demi” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. Lovato (who is a judge on “The X Factor” U.S.) and Lloyd were among the performers at Channel 93.3’s radio concert in Chula Vista, Calif., on May 10, 2013.
Lloyd has said in interviews that she is collaborating with Ne-Yo on a new song (inspired by fans) that is being planned for a summer 2013 release on a date to be announced.
