Chicago area festivals and fairs weekend of July 26-28

It is the last weekend of July and there is a bounty of festivals and fairs in the Chicagoland area. This is a great weekend for families to get out and enjoy the entertainment, music, carnivals and food offered at the many festivals in the Chicago area during the weekend of July 26-28, 2013.

The DuPage County Fair and the Lake County Fair have started and are being held all weekend long. There also some popular festivals being held in Algonquin, Sugar Grove, Streamwood and Johnsburg. Following is a brief description of the Chicago area festivals during the weekend of July 26-28, 2013.

The DuPage County Fair runs Wed.-Sun. July 24-28, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds (2015 Manchester Road) in Wheaton. The fair features family oriented entertainment, agriculture, food, exhibits, musical entertainment, games, contests, carnival rides and more. The demolition derby ($8 additional ticket) is held on Sun.(2 p.m. and 7 p.m.).at the Grandstand. The horse show is on Sat.-Sun. starting at 8 a.m.. Musical entertainment livens up the festivities at the Grandstand and at the beer tent. Adult admission $10, Children (4-12) $4, Kids 3 and under Free. Seniors (60+) free Wed-Fri before 3 p.m..DuPage County Fairgrounds:

The Lake County Fair is being held Wed.-Sun. at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake, in the far northwestern suburbs of Chicago. 85th Lake County Fair lets good times roll in Chicago suburbs

The Algonquin Founders’ Day Festival is being held Thurs.-Sun. at Algonquin Lakes Park, located behind the Algonquin Lakes Elementary School at 1401 Compton Drive in the far western suburbs of Chicago. Activities include carnival rides, Taste of Algonquin, games, musical entertainment, social garden (beer) and more. The Founders’ Days Fireworks Spectacular is at Riverfront Park on Sun. at approx. 9 p.m..Bands. The Main Stage features Pirates Over 40 on Thurs. (7:30-9 p.m.). On Fri.(6:15-10:15 p.m.) the Main Stages features four straight hours of music with two rotating bands, Mike & Joe and Modern Day Romeos. On Sat. the Main Stage features music by 7th Heaven (2-4 p.m.), Smokin Gunz (5-7 p.m.) and The Lounge Puppets (8:15-10:15 p.m.). The Battle of the Bands will be on the Main Stage on Sun. (12:30-5 p.m.).

Walla-Pa-Looza in Johnsburg, in McHenry County, is a fundraiser to support local families dealing with cancer that started in 2009. The one day event, on Sat., July 27, opens at noon and features five top area bands for a day of great music. Bands include: Days of Mayhem (1-2 p.m.), Partyhardigans (2:30-4 p.m), Beatles tribute band American English (4:30-6 p.m), Friction (6:30-8:30 p.m)-and Modern Day Romeos (9-close.) $5 admission.

Taste of Lincolnshire is celebration of food from local restaurants that features live music and kid’s activities. The event held at the Village Green, opens on Fri. at 4, and Sat.and Sun. at 11:30 a.m..

Mooseheart Centennial Celebration is on Sat. in Mooseheart, in the far western suburbs. The event features a carnival and live music by Rick K and the Allnighters (4-6:30 p.m.) and Beatles tribute band American English (7 p.m.). Fireworks will follow the American English show.

The Streamwood Summer Celebration is Fri.-Sun at Hoosier Grove Park (700 W. Irving Park Road) in Streamwood, in the western suburbs of Chicago. Themed “The Best of Broadway,” the event highlights include main stage entertainment; a Children’s Stage, carnival rices, Bingo and more. The fireworks show is on Sat. at 9:15 p.m.. Headliners at the Main Stage include: Hi Infidelity on Fri (8:30-10:30 p.m.) and 7th Heaven on Sat. (8:30-10:30 p.m.).

The Sugar Grove Corn Boil runs July 26-28 in the Village of Sugar Grove, in the far western suburbs of Chicago. The celebration of corn is a family oriented event that features carnival rides, musical entertainment, food, bingo, games, crafts, Kid’s Zone and more. The opening parade and ceremony celebrating patriotic spirit is on Fri. at 6 p.m.. The fireworks show is on Sat. at approx. 9:30 p.m.. SoundStage bands on Fri.: EPIC (7:30 p.m.) and 7th Heaven (9:30 p.m.). SoundStage on Sat. features: Sole City Juke Band (5 p.m.), Hillbilly Rockstarz (6:30 p.m.) Hi Infidelity (8:30 p.m.). SoundStage on Sun.: Serindipity (1 p.m.), 4th Point (2:30 p.m.) and Big Daddy Weave (4 p.m.).
