According to the Canadian Press, Zach Collaros became the third backup quarterback to win a week five Canadian Football League game on Tuesday night as the Toronto Argonauts defeated the British Columbia Lions 38-12.
Collaros, a University of Cincinnati product, followed in the footsteps this weekend of Bo Levi Mitchell of the Calgary Stampeders and Drew Willy of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats respectively.
Collaros, who was making his first CFL start for the injured Ricky Ray who was out with a knee injury, was extremely efficient. He completed 21 of 25 passes for 253 yards and three touchdown passes.
However Collaros was not the only second string Argonaut to make an impression. Running back Curtis Steele had 109 total yards while playing for the injured Chad Kackert. The Grey Cup Most Outstanding Player was also out with a knee injury.
With the win, Toronto improved to 3-2 and leads the Eastern Division by two points over the Montreal Alouettes, while the British Columbia Lions fell to 3-2.
