Despite having tickets, ten College Republicans were dubbed a security threat and denied entry to Barack Obama’s speech at the University of Central Missouri on Wednesday, the College Fix reported.
Apparently, security officers were worried about the president’s safety since some of the students protested Obama earlier in the day with signs calling for capitalism.
Some of the students wore Tea Party t-shirts, while others wore GOP-themed or patriotic shirts, prompting National Review’s Nathan Harden to suggest students improve their chances in the future by wearing Che Guevara gear, an “‘I Heart Kim Jong Un’ campaign button, and/or a ballcap displaying the slogan ‘Obama Girl’ prominently above the brim.”
The students said they had driven a long way and waited a long time in line to hear the president speak, but that didn’t matter.
“It just didn’t make any sense,” College Republicans State Treasurer Courtney Scott told The Fix. “A lot of us traveled several hours to watch the speech. We were very disappointed not to be able to attend.”
The students were confused why they were targeted with heightened security while the other 2,500 students attending weren’t.
The College Fix said it was so hot that some suffered heat exhaustion before seeing the president, who was late to the speech.
According to the report, the students were among some 60 protesters who voiced concern over Obama’s economic policies.
Since its inception, the Tea Party has been viewed as a threat for disagreeing with Obama. Some, like editorial writer Froma Harrup, have suggested the president use military force to deal with the movement.
Even Vice President Joe Biden is said to have called supporters of the group “terrorists.”
