July 20 National Black Arts Festival
The Gala, A Gathering of Colors, is the largest fundraising event presented by NBAF and proceeds from this event fund our year-round programming— including film, visual arts, summer festival and performing arts, in addition to education and public programming events. Each year the Gala is planned around a special theme. The 2013 Gala will celebrate A Love Note to Broadway with film, dance, theatre, art and music. Guests will enjoy a gala cocktail reception before the main event in the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta, Grand Ballroom, featuring video presentations, entertainment with an elegant dinner especially designed to celebrate the Silver Anniversary of NBAF. July 20 – 28 BB&T Atlanta Open
The 2013 BB&T Atlanta Open returns July 20 – 28 to Atlantic Station. For the first time the Bryan brothers are scheduled to play the tournament. The Bryans are recognized as the best men’s doubles team of all time, holding the records for Grand Slam victories, tour crowns and end-of-the-year No. 1 rankings. Returning players include two-time champion Mardy Fish, former Georgia Bulldog John Isner and defending doubles titlist Ryan Harrison. This year all of Stadium Court’s nearly 4,000 spectators will enjoy individual seats with backs. Lexus Inner Circle and Suite seats will feature padded, tip-up seats. July 27 Chattahoochee River Summer Splash
Make a splash at the coolest event this summer in Sandy Springs. The float begins at 9am at the Morgan Falls Dam just 10 minutes north of Atlanta and winds down to Powers Island. The Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces now offers two Summer Movie Series: Chastain Park and Town Brookhaven. Movies begin at dusk and gourmet Food Trucks, beer and wine will be available. Chastain’s line-up is as follows: The Perks of Being a Wallflower (July 18). Town Brookhaven’s line-up includes: Ice Age: Continental Drift (June 6), We Bought a Zoo (June 20), Parental Guidance (July 11) and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (July 25). NOW (Nightly All Summer) Stone Mountain Park Lasershow
State-of the-art digital graphics and awe-inspiring effects create multi-dimensional magic on one of the world’s largest outdoor screens, Stone Mountain. The Laser Canopy creates a dazzling display of neon laser lights featuring characters, stories, graphics and fireworks choreographed to popular musical scores, transforming the park into a natural amphitheater. The new show is enhanced with digital projection that adds 3-D like effects without the glasses. The show runs nightly into the fall and is free with $10.00 vehicle entrance to Stone Mountain Park. Dragon*Con returns to Atlanta for 4 Days this Labor Day Weekend August 30 – September 2.
