The statement “control the press and you control the people” is rearing its ugly head with the government illegally monitoring news sources, yet another attempt by the Obama administration at restricting the U.S. Constitution and the rights of American citizens.
The Department of Justice illegally obtaining e-mails from both the Associated Press (AP) and Fox News reporters is not only an affront to the First Amendment, it makes one wonder how much more control is going on.
No matter which side of the political aisle you fall on, knowing the government is trying to restrict information should be offensive to you.
It wasn’t long ago (2009) when the White House tried to ban Fox News from the press corps. It was the White House press pool that stood up and objected. There’s a reason CBS and Fox News are tied in network ratings. People want information from sources that aren’t just one sided. It helps keep down political control and gives the American public a chance to hear more than just what the White House wants you to hear.
Russian communist revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Lenin once said, “a lie told often enough becomes the truth.” America has never really been subject to propaganda, so some Americans have been taken off guard by the administrations control of the press. With mass media behind the Obama administration and rarely questioning their intensions, it’s not surprising to see lies repeated frequently. At times Fox News is the only dissenting opinion, but it’s an opinion that is necessary to keep the government from controlling the narrative.
The AP CEO claims sources are drying up because of the monitoring of news e-mails by the DOJ. This means information is becoming less available. If people are afraid to speak out against wrong doings (by politicians and the government), then government is controlling the people.
One question is: which came first, the mainstream press turning against Obama, or Obama turning against the mass press? There are numerous examples of liberal columnists finally questioning Obama, including Maureen Dowd’s article, “No Bully in the Pulpit”, April 20, 2013. With President Obama’s Department of Justice monitoring news sources, maybe reporters are finally seeing the light, no one is immune, even if you are behind his policies.
Another question to ask is whether this is a turning point in public opinion? With public opinion lower than ever on Obamacare, and the IRS scandal, will Americans finally look for the truth and question information coming out of the White House?
Get your information from multiple reliable sources, and keep informed. It’s your First Amendment right.
