Achieving that romantic or antique look for your party or social gathering does not have to be difficult or expensive. You can look to your own possessions or those of a friend or relative, or to your local craft, general retail, or party store for supplies that you can use that won’t cramp or deplete your budget.
In the sample picture above the use of a centerpiece for a Mother’s Day/Graduation party (since my mother was graduating), we borrowed inexpensive doilies from our collection that we bought at Big Lots in Panama City on clearance awhile back, artificial flowers, and faux pearls.
Roses were bought from the floral department of a local grocery and put into a ceramic pitcher we already owned. Then the pretty doilies were placed here and there on the table, with the costume jewelry beads strewn about along with the flower petals.
Other ideas to use would be any antique style jewelry, cosmetic articles (like a silver/pewter hand mirror), even some old baby shoes or clothing would be fun for an antique-themed baby shower.
Lastly, a picture of the guest of honor or cherished friends or family placed in some traditional styled frames adds a nice touch to the cozy atmosphere.
The antique style can be used for a more masculine type of party as well. You can find and use old items or sports items such as a tobacco pipe, golf balls and tees, an old tool, fishing lures, etc. Use your imagination and fanciful whims of your creativity and interests of your guest of honor and attendees, and make memories to treasure for years to come!
