Single people date and single people shop for groceries. They appear to be two separate activities. Let’s humorously examine how our grocery shopping habits can be quite similar to our dating habits.
Some singles head directly to the produce. They thump melons, squeeze peaches and pinch peppers. They are looking for high quality and nutrition. These same people probably thump, squeeze and pinch prospective dates (people, not the fruit) to make sure they are dating healthy, high quality people.
When singles meander over to the meat department, there are so many choices. Some buy the high fat, cheaper meats like hot dogs and hamburger. Others prefer boneless, skinless chicken breasts. And still others choose filet mignon or prime rib. (we are pretending, for the sake of fun, that money isn’t a factor)
Now the burger people are probably choosing dates who are fat, fun and taste good. The chicken people are similar to the produce people. They are choosing people who are low fat and healthy. And the filet mignon singles are dating people who probably aren’t very healthy. But…they know how to enjoy and savor the good things life has to offer. They believe in treating themselves and not feeling guilty about it.
After our singles leave the meat department, some do and some don’t head for the frozen foods section. Those that do, want speed and convenience and are probably dating fast, easy people. Those that don’t choose frozen foods, are probably dating people who are willing to take their time and enjoy the satisfaction of creating something beautiful.
The snack and candy aisles are interesting. Some singles avoid them all together and they most likely date people who have no idea how to have fun. Other singles over-indulge in these aisles. They buy everything from extra butter popcorn to economy size Milk Duds. They are dating people (if they are dating at all) who go to extremes with everything in their lives. They are more interested in what goes into their mouths than they are in people. Unless they can put people in their mouths.
Most singles, however, find a balance in these aisles. Perhaps they buy a bag of chips and a box of chocolate covered raisins to last them for a week or more. They date people who are sweet and salty and oooh so good.
There is one enigma in the snack section. Nuts. Hmm. Nuts are high in protein and a good source of long-term energy. But they are still nuts. So people who buy nuts are probably dating high-energy, crazy people.
Leaving the snack section, we travel through caverns and canyons of canned foods. Singles who buy these are looking for a long-term commitment with very little work. Canned foods aren’t very healthy and don’t exactly tantalize the taste buds. But they are there when you need them and aren’t going to expire on you anytime soon. So these singles are probably dating people who are stable, tasteless and content to be used.
As you may have guessed, there are many singles who buy all of these groceries on an intermittent basis. They have well-rounded, enjoyable nutrition and date well-rounded, enjoyable people.
So…what are your dating and shopping habits?
