The Eagle’s Nest boasts some of the best views of the city with a rotating dining room with 360 degree panorama of downtown Indianapolis. Located in the Hyatt Regency Hotel, this romantic restaurant offers a unique dining experience.
Most of the time, you don’t really realize that you are moving, but then you look out the window and notice you are facing a completely different direction. It’s great to get there in time to watch the sunset and then enjoy the twinkling lights at night.
I was treated to an evening with friends as guests of Executive Chef John Pivar, and the menu was a culinary adventure in flavors. Chef Pivar’s philosophy of cooking is to use the very best and freshest products in a way that pays respect to the food’s flavors, textures and colors. Simply put, the food is unique and delicious.
We started with the grilled shrimp cocktail appetizer. The jumbo shrimp were butterfly cut and served with spicy cocktail sauce and sliced lemon. Despite needing to peel the shrimp, they were delicious.
The surprise hit were the rabbit meatballs served in a pomodoro sauce. I don’t usually dabble in wild meats or game, but I must have been feeling adventurous. If you told yourself they were made of turkey, they were actually quite good.
The Parmesan truffle fries were crispy, crunchy and indulgent.
The crab cakes were also a pleasant surprise. I’m not usually a fan if this crowd favorite, but The Eagle’s Nest makes a version that isn’t at all fishy or over creamy.
If I had known how great the appetizers would be, I would have passed on a salad. But nonetheless, my greens with strawberries was light and fresh and summery.
My main course was small but exploding with flavor. The scallops and shrimp dish was fresh and delicious. The three scallops were topped with orange sections that gave it a flavor reminiscent of an island in the Caribbean. It seemed a little pricey for $32, but that is to be expected at this type of high end restaurant.
The pork cheek was also highly recommended. My friend Angela Vance had never tried pork cheek and was pleasantly surprised.
“It almost melted in my mouth it was so tender. The peach habanero glaze was an excellent compliment to this perfectly prepared cut of pork.”
To complete your outstanding meal, don’t forget to try some of the amazing desserts. The chocolate caramel cake is a decadent treat filled with almonds and topped with chocolate ganache. No calories of course.
Not everyone can be an invited guest of the chef, but rest assured the competent staff will treat you as honored guests as well. The Eagle’s Nest is the perfect destination for celebrating a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. The food and romantic ambience can’t be beat in Indianapolis.
