Pondering the possibilities of who God is and what all that encompasses can lead one on a trail that soon becomes an adventure if allowed to. My journey is no different.
After a history within “the Church” and growing up within not only those four walls but also the walls of doctrine that the Church seems to be built on, I became rather disinterested in the laundry list of “have to’s” and “though shalt’s”. I wanted to find something that was genuine and tangible and made at least a little bit of sense. I was sick of the contradictions and hypocrisy that permeated everything about this “place” and “body” called the Church… at least the one I knew growing up.
Suffice it to say that I have found that… but one of the questions that I have begun to ask people just to see what they believe is “Can a Real God have Enemies?”
That was one of the things I questioned for myself and when I found the answer I knew I was onto something and consequently latched on to the truth.
Contemplate this… most times an enemy is considered to be not only morally and diametrically opposed to, but tends to also be what we might consider at least a somewhat formidable adversary… right?
So if a god is TRULY a god… is there such thing as a formidable foe to that god?
After all… doesn’t the idea of a god speak of a supreme being?
So as I personally dove into the Bible that was a question that I wanted answered… and I found it.
Isaiah 54:16… the last part of the verse, “… I also created the destroyer to work havoc.”
Really… if that isn’t enough said, then I don’t know what is?!?
The one possible being to have ever been thought to be a “worthy opponent” on some meager scale to God was actually created BY God for exactly the purpose that he fulfills… to work havoc!!!
So outside of the fact that this idea could possibly rock your religious world (depending on your background or current beliefs), how amazing is it to think that God actually created another being to work havoc?
There are a lot of possible reasons why HE did it…
Perhaps since HE knows we tend to learn lessons by going through different experiences, HE needed something to make sure we had those experiences.
Perhaps HE did it because HE wanted things to go crazy so HE could prove to us that HE actually IS God. If there wasn’t havoc and a mess, would we have any need or desire to even know if there was a God? Would we even need God?
So I came to the fast conclusion that it is pretty cool that God so wanted to prove to us how big HE is and how much HE wants to hang with us and bless us that HE created a being specifically designed to make REALLY BIG messes! If he couldn’t make big messes how could God prove how big HE is?
Rather than having a “formidable foe”, God just had to create a mess maker so that HE could help us to understand just how BIG HE IS. He obviously doesn’t and really can’t have an enemy! Who would have the guts to mess with a God who designed a professional mess maker and havoc worker?
Anyway… that is just one more little aspect of the truth seeking that has lead me to my current course of beliefs. If you would like to know more about this type of belief system I would suggest that you visit Brit Ahm Messianic Synagogue in Pensacola. You can get all of their information: service times, location and contact details… as well as a plethora of information by visiting their web site at www.ShalomPensacola.com.
If you go, make sure to attend Foundations Class on Saturday morning at 9am to have an opportunity to ask questions of Rabbi Eric. If you say Hi to him, tell him I sent you :)
