Electronic Arts and F.C. Barcelona agreed to a three-year-partnership to become the soccer team’s official video game sponsor, the two companies said in a press release today.
“Joining a world class soccer club like Barcelona as an Official Club Partner is a fantastic opportunity for EA SPORTS and our fans,” Matt Bilbey, Senior Vice President and Group General Manager, EA SPORTS, said in the release. “We will create a deeper connection with their passionate, global fan base, and use our games as a platform to engage supporters all around the world for years to come.”
As a part of the agreement, Electronic Arts captured 3D head scans of 17 players on the F.C. Barcelona roster including Xavi Hernandez, Gerard Piqué, Cesc Fàbregas, Dani Alves and Andrés Iniesta, for their upcoming game, “FIFA 14.” F.C. Barcelona star forward Lionel Messi is already the game’s cover athlete. Also as a part of the deal, Camp Nou, Barcelona’s home pitch, will be a featured stadium in the upcoming game.
Earlier this year, Electronic Arts announced similar agreements with other teams around the world including Valencia from Spain’s La Liga, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City from Barclays Premier League in England, Borussia Dortmund from the German Bundesliga, Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain F.C. from Ligue 1 in France, and AC Milan in Italy’s Serie A.
“FIFA 14” is scheduled for a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release in North America on September 24 and worldwide on September 27 and later in the year on Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
