After a long seven game home stand by the El Paso Diablos, the Diablos headed out onto the road to Saint Paul, Minnesota after dropping the three game series to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks two games to one.
Approximately 4,118 fans packed into Midway Stadium to witness the Saints score 11 runs on 12 hits as Saint Paul defeated El Paso 11-3.
Diablos Shortstop Maikol Gonzalez went 2-3, with two doubles and Left Fielder Brian Joynt went 2-4 with two doubles.
Pitcher Ryan Bean (0-1) was struck with his first loss, after giving up eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits and seven walks in five innings.
For the Saints, Second Baseman Dan Kaczrowski went 3-4 with a home run and an RBI. Designated Hitter Brad Boyer also homered, going 2-4 with four runs batted in.
Pitcher Ryan Claggett (2-0) fanned seven Diablos thru six innings of work.
In game two, the Diablos shifted the momentum over and defeated the Saints 7-4 after five runs were scored in the Top of the 5th.
First Baseman Jonathan Cisneros went 3-4 with two doubles, a walk, and four runs batted in. Third Baseman Edgar Corcino hit his first home run of the season, finishing the day going 1-2, with two RBI’s.
Former Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher, Carlos Monasterios (Miranda, Venezuela) made his debut with the Diablos and pitched four innings allowing four runs on five hits, striking out two. Teammate Victor Ferrante (1-0) got the victory after one inning of one-hit baseball. Closer Mike Koons picked up his second save of the year after throwing a perfect inning of baseball.
A big crowd of 5,493 fans attended the series finale. A close game until the end, both pitchers went the distance however the Saint Paul Saints would take game three 3-2 and the series 2-1.
Durango, Mexico native David Casillas threw seven innings of four hit baseball allowing two runs and fanning seven. However, Adam Tollefson (1-1) took the loss after allowing one run on one hit in one inning of work.
Meanwhile Saints Pitcher Mark Hamburger threw 7.1 innings fanning five and allowing seven hits. Matt Meyer (1-1) got the victory after throwing 1.2 innings of work allowing one hit and striking out two batters.
Saints Third Baseman Joey Becker hit a two-run home run in the Bottom of the 1st, Becker finished the day at 1-4. Then, Left Fielder Willie Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly in the Bottom of the 8th to break the 2-2 tie and give the Saints the 3-2 victory. Cabrera went 0-3.
Diablos Left Fielder Brian Joynt went 2-4 with a double and two RBI’s.
The El Paso Diablos are now 3-7 and will head to Lincoln, Nebraska to begin a three-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
