As the summer tourism season begins, Emeril Lagasse is introducing a new menu in his Orlando restaurant for the months of June and July that gives guests a taste of fine Louisiana style cooking. A culinary pearl in the tourist oyster that is Universal CityWalk, Emeril’s restaurant provides both fine cuisine and a family-friendly environment. The versatile restaurant is perfect for date night, a business luncheon, or families wanting to introduce their kids to fine dining. For $30, the summer menu includes three courses, tax and gratuity not included.
The summer menu includes soft and smooth poached oysters with crispy flash fried spinach in an herbsaint cream finished with a cooling dollop of crème fraiche. It is a light and refreshing start to dinner, especially on a balmy summer night.
As any good restaurant should, Emeril preludes dinner with classic bread and butter. The portions are not too filling, leaving room for the rest of the meal. The slightly sweet biscuits arrive crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside.
As an entrée, guests choose between poached salmon with black bean sauce and mango salsa with a side of coconut rice pilaf, tortilla chips and avocado smash or braised beef short ribs with cole slaw and cheddar polenta. The salmon dish is tropical paradise on a plate with the colorful salsa and avocado. The dish is light and fresh, but without the kick of spice one might expect from the chef best known for his catchphrase, “Bam!”
The no-knife-needed short ribs rest atop a creamy cheddar polenta, topped with a crown of cole slaw. The beef is decadently tender and stands up well to the strong cheddar flavor of the polenta. The slaw adds textural interest to the dish, but does not contribute much to the flavor. This dish is the perfect representation of Emeril’s signature “kicked up a notch” southern comfort cuisine.
For dessert, Emeril presents white chocolate buttermilk cake with strawberry sauce. When soaked in the strawberry sauce with a touch of whipped cream, the cake becomes a bite of sweet summertime.
Not included in the summer menu, but worthy considerations to add to the meal are Emeril’s exclusives like the signature BBQ shrimp and biscuits that burst with Louisiana flavor. To enhance dinner, Emeril’s restaurant offers an extensive wine list, and the bar is well stocked to provide guests with a vast array of libations.
If guests are not ready to end the meal with dessert, Emeril’s offers after-dinner coffees served with sticks of sugary rock candy.
The food is not the only reason to book an evening at Emeril’s. The open floor plan and kitchen, high ceilings, enclosed patio, oil candles, and large windows give the restaurant a unique modern-industrial atmosphere. The fusion of the industrial openness, clean lines, and metallics with the homey wooden floors and chairs creates an ambiance of sophistication and comfort.
The patio seating offers exceptional people watching, looking out over the hub of Universal CityWalk, as well as a spectacular view at sunset. The service is outstanding; it is quick and professional with servers who are attentive yet not intrusive. They are accessible if needed and respond when a glass needs refilled, plate needs cleared, or photo taken, but otherwise leave guests to enjoy their food. In addition to the exquisite serving staff, the manager can be seen visiting each table to insure his guests are enjoying their experiences at Emeril’s restaurant.
