The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom wants to end “Corporate Personhood.”
They even offer a bumper sticker for $2 that reads, “Want Democracy? – End Corporate Rule.”
This is where libertarians part company with the League because, like virtually all mainstream thinkers on both the political left and right, the League wants to rid the country of half its problem while keeping the other half.
In short, they want to abolish the corporation half but keep the government half.
Libertarians want neither corporations nor government. Not even the kind of government called “Democracy.”
Democracy is the rule of a majority over a minority. It is, in short, mob rule.
The answer to the League’s bumper sticker is this bumper sticker: “Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.”
America’s Constitution tried to create a republic that “gave” its rulers very limited powers while acknowledging the far-reaching freedoms of individuals.
The reality is that this attempt at a republic failed. America today is neither a republic nor a democracy; it is a statist-corporatist-bankster mobocracy ruled over by a small powerful clique of psychopaths.
America today is a thuggish one-party police state at home and a loutish empire abroad.
It was this very “limited government” democracy that created the “Corporate Personhood” that the WILPF is fighting against today. As their own personhood brochure (pdf) acknowledges, “In 1886 the U.S. Supreme Court declared that under the law corporations were ‘persons’ and gave them the same rights as human beings.”
Corporations have no power. They don’t maintain armies and police units that force people to buy their goods and services. What they do is bribe politicians to maintain their profits and protect them from competition by passing sweetheart legislation for them and then get government to use their armies and police units on behalf of the corporation’s profits.
Government wants the corporation’s money and corporations want the government’s power. Getting rid of one and not the other is like abolishing the Crips but not the Bloods.
Virtually all politicians, corporatists and banksters are happy with this mutually profitable system and will fight to keep it.
The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom must learn that there will never be peace or freedom until they understand that it’s coercion that must be abolished – all kinds of coercion, including government’s kind – and that means embracing the libertarian Zero Aggression Principle.
