Clevelanders seeking a a short getaway (possible romantic?) that isn’t too far from home should check out the special Summer Theater Package being offered by the Oberlin Inn in Oberlin, Ohio from now through August 3.
Summer Theater Package Located just 25 miles west of Cleveland on the campus of Oberlin College, the Oberlin Inn is offering a special deal that also lets you get acquainted with the many cultural and historical activities and sites that the city of Oberlin has to offer its visitors. The package includes overnight accommodations at the Oberlin Inn and dinner for two including beverages and dessert. Cost of the package is $110 per couple (plus tax).
While there visitors will be able to partake of several local activities (many of them free) offered nearby or on the campus of Oberlin College. One of the main attractions are presentations of three rotating plays at the Summer Theater at Hall Auditorium through August 3. The plays include Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night,” “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “Light Up the Sky,” a comedy by Moss Hart giving an insider’s view of Broadway. Tickets to a production are included in the Summer Theater Package.
There will also be concerts on Tappan Square in the evening on Friday, July 26 and Friday, August 2.
In addition, Oberlin visitors can visit the Allen Memorial Art Museum featuring nearly 14,000 works of art (paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, decorative arts and photographs) and the FAVA Gallery Visual Arts Center located at the New Union Center for the Arts.
Be sure to check out the Oberlin Heritage Center where you can tour three historic buildings. The Monroe House was built in 1866 and was the home of Giles W. Shurtleff, the leader of the first African-American regiment to serve in the Civil War.
The Jewett House was built in 1884 and was home to Frank Fanning Jewett, a chemistry professor at Oberlin College and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
And built in 1836, the Little Red Schoolhouse was the first public school in town and is Oberlin’s oldest building.
Oberlin also has several quaint shops lining its streets and there is a nearby bike trail for those interested in a bit of exploring.
