In a column for LifeNews.com, former Girl Scout Sydney Volanski brought to light what both the Girl Scouts USA and Planned Parenthood have denied for years; specifically, that the two organizations are often partners in events that promote abortion. She cites a pro-abortion women’s conference just last month in which the two organizations participated.
Volanski, a former Girl Scout from Texas, is one of the co-founders of SpeakNowGirlScouts.com, a website hat texposes the Girl Scouts’ questionable actions and affiliations. In her column, Volanski points out that the Girl Scouts do not work with Planned Parenthood directly, but they do work with them as part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), which they co-founded and fund with over $1 million from money raised by scouts. Girls Scouts USA accounts for a quarter of all WAGGGS members.
Last month, WAGGGS partnered with Planned Parenthood in a conference called “Women Deliver.” Billed as “the largest global event of the decade to focus on the health and empowerment of girls and women,” the conference website made no direct mention of abortion, but it was certainly on the agenda of those participating.
According to a report by Rebecca Oas of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, speakers at the Women Deliver event extolled the importance of abortion. One speaker even spoke out against stricter supervision of abortion procedures in light of the Kermit Gosnell trial. “Medical abortion should not be over-medicalized,” the speaker said, who also proclaimed abortion drugs “put power directly in women’s hands,” a statement that was met with applause from the audience.
During the event, another speaker, Nigerian gynecologist Talemoh Dah, defended late-term abortion by saying “abortion can never be late.” He also warned against allowing babies to survive abortions and allowing an aborted baby to be photographed. Another speaker, late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart, told attendees “abortion providers do not kill children.”
In the LifeNews.com column, Volanski pointed out that both Planned Parenthood and WAGGGS exhibited at the conference, and served together supervising the Youth Working Group subcommittee of the conference. Serving with them was Dance4Life, whose self-described mission is to give “young people the correct information about sex, HIV and AIDS, and provide them with the skills needed to be able to protect themselves.” Also serving on the committee was Pathfinder International, who states their mission is “to ensure that people everywhere have the right and opportunity to live a healthy sexual and reproductive life.”
Volanski left the Girl Scouts after experiencing their pro-abortion agenda and partnership with Planned Parenthood first-hand. The Girl Scouts continue to deny the link, and since their partnership runs through WAGGGS, they can technically deny at least a direct partnership.
The CEO of the Girl Scouts, Anna Maria Chavez, worked extensively with Democrats before joining the Scouts. According to the Catholic News Service, she campaigned for a number of Democratic candidates in the past, and served as an advisor to President Bill Clinton.
