Zombie Industries has created a mannequin shooting target, called “The Ex,” that bleeds when it is struck by gunshots. Now, the product is “under fire,” and not just literally.
Yahoo! Finance reported May 8 that after an online petition was sent to Amazon, who was selling the product, the life-size target was removed. Some felt the target was tasteless and offensive, not to mention quite gruesome, and I would have to agree.
Amazon has not formally commented on why the product was removed, but the target disappeared after the group UltraViolet collected more than 60,000 signatures on an online petition.
The petition reads: “Gun violence against women is a serious problem. But ‘The Ex’ shooting target turns violence against women into a joke and promotes the idea that men should want to kill their ex-wives or ex-girlfriends.”
If the name Zombie Industries rings a bell, you probably heard about the Obama shooting target that was removed from an NRA convention last week.
The company has a line of 15 zombies, one of which resembled President Obama so much that it was pulled from the recent NRA conference.
Only one of the company’s targets were female. As to why, the Zombie website offrered up this nugget:
“To discriminate against Women by not having them represented in our product selection would be just plain sexist.”
Much better to reach out for equality to women via a bleeding, revolting and hateful target.
The company hasn’t commented on the Amazon listing yet but they did apologize in advance for creating an offensive target. The company writes on its website that all of its products are completely fictional and aren’t intended to represent real people.
The company writes: “Zombie Industries is sorry if anyone takes offense to any of our products. But we also have a responsibility to our customers to provide the best possible products to help them prepare for the Zombie Apocalypse.”
No, no we’ve got it all wrong. Here we thought that the targets were fostering violence against women and reinforcing stereotypes. Come to find out, it’s simply required training for when zombies invade our towns.
The company writes: “Each Alexa Zombie is hand painted to accurately resemble an infected human that just finished gnawing your neighbor Zed’s leg, to give you that realistic look. What makes our Zombie’s so special? They’re filled with biodegradable matter, which makes clean up a wee-bit easier…(are you happy, mom?) …and oh yah, let’s not forget, they bleed and burst into little pieces of blood soaked, Zombie matter when you shoot them!”
