To some, it’s the advent into adulthood, for others, it’s the start of a new generational cycle. On Sunday, June 16th from 3-6pm, a few professionals, along with other men who have a love and passion for cooking, family, and community are coming together for the Father’s Day tradition of Real Men Cook.
The Atlanta group hosts the second largest Real Men Cook event in the country, only surpassed by its “birth city” of Chicago. With an estimated 150 dishes comprised of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, all in attendance are bound to enjoy a delicious sample-sized portion of a delectable culinary creation.
This year’s event takes place at the Georgia World Congress Center at the Georgia Ballroom (Building C). Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12; attendees are strongly encouraged to purchase their tickets online or visit any of the ticket vendor outlets which include partner businesses and organizations in Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Clayton, and Fayette counties.
The ticket purchase includes all of your food and beverages at the event.
The Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation, Cooking Matters, The Apex Museum, and Real Men Cook Charities are the charity partners for this year’s edition. Multiple cooking demonstrations from well-known chefs such as Ed Harris (winner of the Food Network’s CHOPPED Turbo Powered-Season 4), musical performances from recording artists such as (but not limited to) KeKe Wyatt (currently on R and B Divas of Atlanta), and guest hosts including V103’s Egypt Sherrod are among those who are lending their support for Sunday’s event.
Adding to the positive and powerful presence are the honorary chairs, which include Shannon Brown (Senior VP/Chief HR and Diversity Officer of FedEx Express), Valerie Jackson (Chairman of Jackpoint Hospitality), Judge Glenda Hatchett, Rev. Marvin Moss (of Cascade UMC), Dr. Alduan Tartt, and others from the fields of media, public service, and the corporate sector. The judges for the event are equally varied, which include (but are not limited to) media figures such as HGTV’s Kimberley Lacy and the AJC’s Rodney Ho, bloggers (Nikka Shae, Shameeka Ayers, Yalanda Lattimer, writers (Andrea Janise and Steen Miles), local artisans Cocktails and AJ, and even fellow professional chefs Tamara Mixon, Tawanaca Davenport, and LA Brown.
FedEx Express, Waffle House, Delta Airlines, Georgia Power, Urban Lux, and Rolling Out are but a few of the many members of the corporate community who are sponsoring and supporting the event; a complete listing may be found on the organization’s website. Likewise, a health fair, children’s stations (which include face painting), and a silent auction table are among the other surprises in store for the day.
Whew; that’s a pretty large lineup for is a pretty large day. With this collection of personalities from multiple walks of life, along with the blend of men who are taking time out of their day to serve and support their communities, Real Men Cook Atlanta is more than just something to do for Father’s Day. It is a community staple which highlights the importance of a positive male presence and what it can do for a family and a community.
And that’s truly some “realness” for you.

More than just a diva
R and B Divas Atlanta cast member KeKe Wyatt is among the artists who are performing at Real Men Cook Atlanta. Her powerful presence and voice should be a treat for all in attendance (she is pictured with her husband Michael at a recent promo for V103 Atlanta).
