Official casting news for “Fifty Shades of Grey” may be a long way off according to insiders but fans are still enjoying the debate and discussions over who should play Christian Grey and Ana Steele. The hotly anticipated film is sure to catapult a few lucky actors into stardom and current web chatter has Matt Bomer, Alexis Bledel and Alexandra Daddario as the favorites. MStarz reported on May 22 that Bomer and Bledel were the top choice to play the iconic couple, while Enstarz has Daddario as the newest contender for the role of Ana.
A new casting poll by Mstarz asks fans if Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel are the perfect actors to fill the roles of Christian and Ana. The results are practically unanimous, with 81% of participants saying “They’re the PERFECT match!” Bomer, 35, has been a fan favorite since Universal Pictures announced the movie project. Putting the controversy over his personal life aside, Bomer has been criticised as simply being too old to portray the 27 year old billionaire. Bledel, 31, has also been subjected to the same criticisms, as Ana Steele is a very naive 22 in the novel. Yet even with the age issue there are plenty of “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans that want to see the pair cast. Matt Bomer especially has a very large fan following, one fan shared the sentiments of many declaring, “Matt Bomer is Christian Grey 100%.”
Alexandra Daddario, 27, is a relatively new face in the Ana Steele casting debate. Enstarz considers the “Percy Jackson” actress the front runner for the role and fans agree, one admitting “I do think Alexandra Daddario is great! I was all for Alexis Bledel but now I am going for Alexandra as my #1 pick…she will work!!!” The young beauty could also step in as a replacement in the above mentioned duo since she has worked with Matt Bomer on “White Collar.” Daddario spoke about “Fifty Shades of Grey” casting rumors in January saying, “I’ve heard [the rumors]. I don’t believe they’ve started casting. I haven’t heard anything about it. But I’m honored that people are throwing my name out for it. I’m honored that people would think of me for any big role that is talked about a lot. But, yes, I should read the books. I’ve heard that they are rather risqué…”
According to the production team “Fifty Shades of Grey” casting will not begin until after a director is found for the project. Joe Wright was recently rumored to have taken the gig but it appears the insiders known as “Team Fifty” are still on the lookout for the right man (or likely woman) for the job. Stay tuned for more news and casting discussions!
