Beginning around July 4 and continuing through Labor Day, Pet Valu will be selling themed products with all proceeds to benefit the U.S. War Dog Association (USWDA).
Based in Burlington, New Jersey, the USWDA is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the history of military service dogs, establishing permanent war dog memorials, providing support to war dogs and their handlers, and serving as a clearing house for retired dog adoptions across America.
Pet Valu first learned about the USWDA in 2010 and has committed to their support ever since. The first year, Pet Valu raised $25,000. Last year, the figure exceeded $50,000.
Pet Valu is especially proud to have received the Seven Seals Award from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve in October 2012 and shares this prestigious honor with the individuals who supported Pet Valu’s War Dog Campaign.
No one who has worked with the canine members of the Armed Forces will ever deny that they are true heroes, selfless, brave and loyal. They are often the first line of defense against danger and are true best friends and guardians to our service men and women.
“Each year, Pet Valu has been able to increase our donations to the USWDA, and this year, we’re looking for even higher numbers,” said Amy DePaoli, marketing director. “The war may be thousands of miles away, but knowing about the dogs really brings it close to home.”
There are several ways to donate:
- Purchase a themed product at your local Pet Valu store
- Make a contribution of any denomination on a “paper paw” in memory of or for a current four legged friend at any Pet Valu location
- Make a monetary donation through a secured PayPal account by clicking here
Contributions help the USWDA send out hundreds of packages for the dogs including cooling vests, boots and “doggles,” as well as fund transportation back to the United States after their service is complete. Contributions also help facilitate adoptions to find these veteran war dogs forever homes with loving owners.
“We’re especially happy about the support Pet Valu has given us,” said Ron Aiello, founder and president of the USWDA. “Because of their generosity, we were able to upgrade the quality of the products we send to our dog teams.”
