According to a May 30, 2013 post in the Whedoneque blog, Summer Glau, a Texas born actress best known for her role as River Tam in the cult classic TV series “Firefly” and its follow up movie “Serenity,” had cut a video for the 175 anniversary of Texas independence touting the Lone Star State’s burgeoning wind energy industry.
Artfully, Glau calls wind energy the “new black gold.”
It has been noted before that Texas, known primarily for its leadership in the oil and gas industry, is also a leader in wind energy. Texas following the strategy of the “all of the above” approach to energy production, leading the way in hydraulic fracking to get at new deposits of oil and gas, as well as building wind farms
Much of the reason for the success of both approaches tends to be the business friendly environment in Texas. Environmental opposition to most forms of energy production, whether extracting oil and gas or harvesting the wind, tends to be absent or at least muted in the Lone Star State. Most land in Texas is in private hands, placing it outside the purview of most government regulation.
