Years ago the fitted dress shirt was designed for the business suit to complement a man’s stature. Still serving its purpose, the fitted shirt is perpetually designed over to meet different needs. There are many colors and styles to choose from, for any occasion. The short sleeved button down (sometimes referred to as a Polo) is generally worn in the summer months for bar-b-ques, resort vacations, or casual Friday’s. The long sleeved button down is preferred in the fall and winter months; and is generally worn for formal business meetings, church, and with tuxedos. Often, men prefer to customize their fitted shirt to complement their waist, biceps, and shoulders.
Women’s Fitted Dress Shirt
A spin-off from the men’s shirt, the women’s fitted dress shirt can take many forms. Often referred to as blouses, not many people recognize the difference between the two. The terms are used interchangeably. There is no defining line between the two, just the knowledge of both terms. Most would identify a fitted button down blouse or dress shirt as a shirt worn in a professional setting such as the office. It’s generally appropriate for any conservative or social occasion.
Just like men, women prefer the fitted shirt to accentuate their charms. Its the perfect option for a curvy woman who is small in the waist. Whether it’s worn tucked in, or out with a belt, the fitted shirt can slenderize any shape.
Athletic Fitted Shirts
The fitted sport tee is worn by both men and women in sports and for everyday recreational wear. Runners have customized tees to prevent chaffing and to absorb warmth in the winter. Biking shirts are designed to support aerodynamic speed. Sports such as football, basketball and other physically strenuous sports have specialized fitted shirts to prevent body shock.
There are even specialty clothing trade companies that sell specialized fitted under shirts to construction company employees who need additional back brace support.
Fitted Tee Shirts
From the blue collar job to the park the standard white tank (nicknamed, the wife-beater) is often worn as a men’s undergarment. Female fitted tank tees (often referred to as the cami) are worn to smooth out the appearance of blouses and jackets. The current trend is multi-colored tank tees, where women can choose from a number of different colors to go with both professional and sport outfits. There are a number of contemporary clothing stores that sell multi-colored tank tees for pennies on the dollar.
