It seems that Florida has gotten a bad reputation in the news. There are always new stories popping up that defy logic, and they usually happen in Florida.
There are even popular social media accounts that relay the strangest headlines. Here are five great stories that come from the great southern state.
1. Gulfport woman accused of hitting man with garden gnome
The Tampa Bay Times reported on an incident in May where an argument between Lisa D. Buckley threw a garden gnome at a man in her home during an argument. The Louisiana Saints-style gnome hit the man in the head and made him bleed.
She realized her mistake the next day and then texted and called the man to not press charges.
Buckley was charged with domestic battery and harassing a victim and released on bail.
2. Lake Worth man accused of indecent act on business’ door
A mentally unstable man in Palm Beach County found himself sexually attracted to a business’ door in May according to the Sun-Sentinel Times.
Anthony Berry was filmed by an employee at a Hypoluxo business as he removed himself from his clothes and did something naughty to the door, then sat down on a bench and spoke nonsense to himself.
His rap sheet included cocaine possession, trespassing, robbery, sexual assault and other charges.
3. Deputies: Woman pulled gun on roommate for hiding vodka
A 51-year-old woman really wanted her vodka. When she couldn’t find it, Kari Ann Bradford Dangler took out her Colt Python revolver and pointed it at her roommate according to the South Florida Sun-Senitnel.
She told police that she was cleaning the gun, but her roommate called the police to say that it was being pointed at them.
Police found a bullet Dangler’s room, but she said it was from shooting a frog she heard earlier in the month.
4. 3 arrested in Putnam joyride with 9-foot purple chicken
Three men could not resist messing with their neighbor’s giant aluminum chicken statue.
The Florida Times-Union reported that three Florida men hooked the 9-foor chicken statue to a truck and rode it while one of the thieves sat atop it.
They scarred the 600-pound fake bird and left in the middle of the road. It was returned to its owner by police.
5. Fleeing Florida woman Ashley Taylor Wright throws baby at deputy
Police did some impromptu babysitting when a woman resisted arrest by tossing her kid at them.
Florida’s 10 News reported that 23-year-old Ashley Taylor Wright stole clothing from a local mall in Pensacola and almost got away with it.
When police confronted her at her car, Wright tossed a carrier containing her baby at them.
She then tried to run away but face-planted and had to be taken to the hospital.
Florida woman throws gnome
A Florida woman threw a gnome at someone living in her home. It hit the victim in the head and she was charged with battery. She called him the next day to apologize for throwing the gnome in anger
Florida man rubs against a door
Anthony Brice Barry removed his clothing and rubbed himself against he door of a local business in Lake Worth. He had a string of charges including drug possession, sexual assault and many others over the years.
Woman threatens roommate with gun over vodka
A 51-year-old woman said she was cleaning her revolver when she got angry at her roommate for hiding her vodka. She put the gun in her roommate’s face and threatened to get the vodka back.
Three men steal giant chicken
Three young men in Putnam County stole a 9-foot chicken statue that was in a neighbor’s yard and took it for a joy ride. They drove it down the street with one of the men on top. Police gave the chicken back, but it was damaged and scratched.
Woman throws baby at police
The 23-year old mother got caught stealing $260 worth of clothing from Dillard’s and stuffed it in her baby’s stroller. When police found her at her car, she refused to give up the clothing. Then she threw the carrier with her baby in it and ran away. She fell on her face shortly after.
