Most people cringe at the idea of spending a few long hours a week in a sweaty, busy place like their local gym. After all, the gym is for all the good looking, in shape people, isn’t it? For the average person, going to the gym is nerve-wrecking, especially those with little to no experience.
If we are in the mindset of we must look fit enough before going to work out in a public place, we might as well forget about it. It seems so superficial, but this is a common problem, especially among women. Beat the cycle by finding sneaky ways to incorporate exercise into your daily routine without going to the gym.
Sign up for a community sport
Remember how fun sports were? Being a team player, winning or losing – it never mattered – as long as we were with friends and having a good time. The exponential release of feel goody endorphins from the physical effort and simply being around friends was well enough to mask the fact we were actually exercising.
A little healthy competition is never a bad thing, either. Competition allows us to release some of that natural, instinctual aggression and tension from our day jobs.
Find a local, seasonal sport in your area. Check churches, community colleges, meetup websites, and craigslist.
Take a dance class or hit the club
Dancing is a favorite past time for many. Going out to the club on the weekend is a great way to burn calories with a smile all night long. The club scene can get old fast, however, and its not exactly the safest place to get lean. Plus, its never a good idea to mix exercise and alcohol; consider this a recipe for dehydration.
Consider taking a dance class at a studio. Not only is this great for the community by investing in a local business, but consider the significance of being able to groove and shake the pounds off in a safe, supervised environment.
Never learned to waltz? Love to two step? Perhaps something a little more exotic, like belly dancing, is more enticing. Tone up and shed pounds all while learning a new skill.
With the age of the internet, heading out to a studio is no longer necessary. Plenty of websites offer at home dancing courses available via instant download.
Bonus points for trying fitness programs like Zumba or Hip Hop Abs, which can burn more than 300 calories in an hour while sculpting and toning the body for some serious definition.
Take the stairs
Definitely no originality points awarded here, but how simple is this? Opt for the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator every time, and raise that stamina. Stairs will tone legs, lift butts, and burn fat. Be a trendsetter and start a health revolution in the office.
Buy a pedometer
A pedometer is a tiny gadget that can be clipped to just about anywhere. A decent one will record steps taken with mileage. Try for 10,000 steps per day, its amazing how quickly they add up over the course of a normal work day. For every mile completed, approximately 100 calories will be burned – depending on current weight, of course.
Park far away
Its amazing how people will circle a parking lot three times to try to find a place close to the venue just so they can avoid walking the distance. In the time spent circling the parking lot, people could have already parked and walked to the destination in most cases. Remove the stress of finding the perfect parking spot and choose to park a few isles away. Good for mental health, and great for cellulite.
Recommended during busy daytime hours only. Never park far away from a store at night where saftey can be compromised and always ask a security guard to keep an eye out until getting into the car during dawn and twilight.
An average two to four pounds of fat loss per month by steadily incorporating these practices is realistic. Consider doing some light weight lifting two times a week to build muscle and burn even more fat.
