The sunny summer days are almost here. That means it’s time to start thinking about getting a summer wardrobe together for all of those days at the beach, shopping trips, summer parties, music festivals and date nights.
Instead of spending money on a completely new wardrobe, you can use things you already own to create summer perfect looks. To help you recycle your wardrobe into summer-ready looks, fashion guru and Project Runway alumnus, Althea Harper has some great style tips to share.

Transform a button-down shirt
Turn your boyfriend’s button down shirt into a cute dress. It’s free, easy and now fashionable! You can also pair the shirt with skinny jeans or tuck it into a skirt for a laid back, stylish look.
Roll up your jeans for instant summer style.
If you haven’t had the time to swap out your winter wardrobe for the summer, just roll up your jeans or pants for an instant summer look! This relaxed style is accomplished by pulling together with oxford shoes or a great pair of ballet flats and a light t-shirt, sweater or oversized blazer.
Make your own crop top.
Crop tops are definitely a trend of the summer. Take an old v-neck tee that might have a stain on the bottom and cut approx 6 inches off from the hem. If you don’t feel comfortable with a sewing machine then you can turn the hem 3/4″ under and place stitch witchery in between the wrong sides of the fabric. Then place an iron down on the right side of the fabric. Using a Rowenta Pro Master Iron is great for the burst of steam to set the fabric in place. You have an easy crop top that can be worn dressed down or dressed up. This will instantly create a crop top; great for summer festivals and parties!
Just add boots.
Another big trend this summer season is pairing boots with dresses, skirts and shorts. The summer can bring rain showers and incorporating certain fall and winter boots into the season is okay. I would suggest pairing them with a cute floral or patterned frock to lighten the mood. Stay away from construction boots or boots with fur. Cowboy boots and military style boots usually look great with feminine pieces.
Keep your skinny jeans.
If you have a go to pair of slimming black jeans or pants that you absolutely love and are not ready to give them up for warmer weather, pair them with chiffon floral blouses, pastel colored shells or a bright colored cami and cardigan for warmer weather.
