Once in a while we are approached by prospective students who already engage in flower arranging. Some are running their own floral shop and some are doing flower arrangement just for hobby. The common point is that both of them have no experience of taking official lessons and are not happy with their current flower arranging skills.
There are many floral shop owners who have never taken any official lesson of floral decorations. As I mentioned repeatedly, if they have good sense of business and have intention of doing floral business, they COULD run floral shop although it is difficult to offer floral decorating services such as wedding or funeral decorations.
These kind of people approach our school to give us inquiry about taking lessons. Quite frankly speaking, from the standpoint of teaching floral designs, students who have no experience have less difficulties for earning good and right skills than people already having wrong skills.
This does not mean that it is impossible to rectify wrong skills but means that taking a right way of lessons from a reliable and experienced instructor greatly helps those people improve their skills.
In this kind of case, it is usually recommended to start from scratch by taking lessons of basic program such as elementary course rather than enrolling in intermediate course or other business oriented program by skipping a basic program.
Once they earn basic skills or once they can rectify wrong way of arrangements, they can proceed to the next step of higher level of program such as Fresh Flower Arrangement Intermediate Course or Wedding Party Arrangement Basic Course. If the financial situation allows, the most ideal way of approach is to proceed to Fresh Flower Arrangement Intermediate Course rather than going to business oriented programs after completing the elementary course. After completing the intermediate course, they should go to business oriented programs in this particular case.
If they can earn decent basic skills, they have higher and better possibilities of expanding their business by acquiring professional skills for wedding and funeral floral decorations. Like the case of making a multi story building, if the foundation of building is not done in an appropriate and strong manner, it is totally impossible to make a high rise condominium. The bottom line is that the role of basic skill is so important for floral designers.
