“Flowers In The Attic” is returning to television in a remake for Lifetime, Deadline is reporting today.
The movie is a loosely based true story involving writer V.C. Andrews and an acquaintance she once knew. The original movie debuted in 1987 starring Louise Fletcher and Victoria Tennant.
“Flowers In The Attic” follows a family of four children who are taken to their grandmother’s home and hidden away in an attic. The 1987 version was an eerie story with creepy music playing in the background as we witnessed a dazed-looking mother who has forgotten about her four children who are being mistreated by their grandmother upstairs.
The true story is actually a “fictionalized account of a true story,” according to a pitch letter written by Virginia Andrews, found at completevca.com.
The idea for the movie arose from a story that a doctor told her about his family. The author of The Complete V.C Andrews site has spoken to family member of Andrews who confirms that it was indeed based on a true story.
However, no one has found in actual evidence that the true story really happened. It does not appear that the story ever made headlines or that an arrest was ever made in the real case.
Virginia Andrews admitted that most of what is seen in the movie was based on experiences of people that she knew, as well as her own experiences and ideas.
The remake of “Flowers In The Attic” will appear on Lifetime sometime in the future. It will be an adaptation of V.C. Andrews book “Flowers In The Attic.” It will star Ellen Burstyn and Heather Graham.

Flowers In The Attic: 1987 movie
Who doesn’t remember this movie starring Louise Fletcher. Fletcher played the role of “Grandmother” in the movie. She was the most sadistic grandmother the 1980’s kids had ever seen.
Flowers In The Attic Novel-Book
This is the 1979 novel by V.C. Andrews. The book was much different than the movie version. This was one of the reasons the movie received so much criticism.
