August 10, Honey Fextival at Howell Living History Farm

All of the Farm’s bees will be on their best behavior that day according to beekeepers, who have invited the public to meet the queens, drones and workers who are responsible for this year’s crop of clover honey. Visitors will be able to help uncap and extract honey, to taste and buy honey, and to see the insides of working hives.
The “bee yard” will be open for visits from 11:00am-noon, when beekeeper Bob Hughes removes the boxes that contain frames of honey. Visitors who want a close-up view of the action—which involves “brushing” the bees off the frames—should avoid wearing perfume, cologne or hairspray. Children can help spin honey from the frames by turning the crank of an “extractor”. Honey extracting and sampling will take place at 1:00pm

August 24, 2013, 4th Annual Spicy Wing Challenge

Buffalo’s Chicken Shack will be hosting its annual “Spicy Wing Challenge” wing eating contest. Challengers compete for the title of “Buffalo King” and a grand prize of $1000.00 based on the challenger that can eat the largest amount of their spiciest wings in 7 minutes. These are Jumbo Buffalo Wings sauced with Buffalo’s “Numb Ya Face” spicy buffalo sauce that is measured at more than 500,000 SHU. There will be plenty of water, milk and ice on hand for the dropouts or challengers that’ll need special “cool me down” attention. This will be a great and fun event for the challengers as well as spectators. Got a sauce you make that’s a hit? Bring it to compete.
A new addition to the annual event is the “Wing Sauce” Contest. For 2013, the organizers have added the Buffalo’s “Wing Sauce” Contest where contestants will submit their home-style sauces to compete.
