Stanford University is sitting on top of the 2013 Forbes college rankings. The sixth official rankings of America’s Top Colleges was released by Forbes on July 24, 2013, and it is calculated by the Center for College Affordability & Productivity (CCAP). They’ll be in the Aug. 12, 2013, issue of “Forbes” as it hits newsstands all over.
The rankings are determined by a number of factors. They focus:
- Post-graduate success – 37.5 percent
- Student satisfaction – 22.5 percent
- Student debt – 17.5 percent
- Nationally competitive awards – 11.25 percent
- Graduation rate – 11.25 percent
Princeton University sat on top of last year’s Forbes college rankings, but it was pushed down to the third spot in 2013. Pomona College sits behind Stanford University to have two California colleges sitting in the top spots.
“Picking a college is one of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime,” says Forbes Executive Editor Michael Noer. “Our college rankings were created to inform consumers about the quality of the educational experience and our brand new financial health grades give insight into which schools will be around for the long-haul.”
Sadly, these rankings are important enough to some schools that they will lie about data provided to the Education Department and other governmental groups. In the last four years, four schools including Iona College and Bucknell University, each lied to the Federal Government about the quality of their student bodies.
It’s good to see your college in the top of the rankings, but it isn’t worth lying about things.
