Restaurant.com and I agree that “While it’s tempting to focus all of your marketing efforts on acquiring new customers, research shows that there is far more opportunity in marketing to your existing customers.” In general, people do not like change. They would rather go to an supplier they have supported before than switch to a new supplier. That is why Restaurant.com says “it is 6 to 7 times more costly to acquire a new customer than retain an existing customer.”
My most wonderful accounting system, Freshbooks.com, has given me another tool to market and retain my existing customers. As I was perusing the system on a Saturday night, I stumbled upon a button that said e-mail in the People tab. I was already excited when I thought of the possibility of e-mailing all my current customers! As a result of e-mailing 100 clients, we received 2 appointments, references (i.e. hard bounces) to update 5 email addresses and a payment on accounts receivable. That is Customer Relationship Management made easy!!!
The instructions from the Freshbooks blog say:
- Go to the “People” tab
- Check the boxes next to the clients you want to email.
- Click on the “Email” button at the top of the table
- Enter a subject
- Write your message (there are no dynamic variables when sending mass emails)
- Choose to include a link to your login page (yourcompanyname.freshbooks.com) which includes a link with the client’s login name and instructions on how to reset the password.
- Click “Send” and kick your feet up :D
***NOTE***: FreshBooks is not an ideal system for mass emailing. We do allow it, but if you are planning on emailing 50 or more people at one time we would recommend using one of our email marketing add-ons like Mailchimp, cake, zferral, Constant Contact, ActiveCampaign.
My company uses the Freshbooks unlimited plan so the system allows an unlimited number of customers. Freshbooks also has an easy routine to import contacts but 3rd party servicers can also transfer data files for you. I found this handy piece of information to integrate Freshbooks with your Gmail contacts on Zapier.
The company website says “Zapier makes your web services talk to each other like never before. Thousands of businesses use Zapier as the choice for integrating business web services like Freshbooks & Gmail. Zapier puts you in the driver’s seat. Choose the web services you want to use. Connect them in ways you want to connect them.Simply select the two services you want to integrate and then with an easy step-by-step wizard you can create Zaps that will automate routine tasks in minutes that have plagued your productivity for years. No more waiting for app developers to build integrations. No more expensive freelance programmers. No more unreliable interns. No more lengthy deployment times. Just you and your favorite web services getting stuff done.”
Zapier has 4 types of accounts. The Free account includes Standard Services up to 100 Tasks per month, 5 Zaps (explanation below) and 15 Minute Syncing. The Basic account includes Premium Services up to 3,000 Tasks per month, 20 Zaps and 15 Minute Syncing for just $15/month. The Business Plan account includes Premium Services, up to 15,000 Tasks per month up to 50 Zaps and 5 Minute Syncing for a subscription price of 49 per month. The Business Plus Plan includes Premium Services, up to 50,000 Tasks per month, 125 Zaps, 5 Minute Syncing, telephone Support and Priority Input for $99 per month.
The website also describes a Zap, a Task and Premium Services. A Zap is a link between two services (a “trigger” and an “action”). Zaps run automatically in the background every few minutes to move and manage data on your behalf. Only live Zaps count against your limit — you can have as many paused and unfinished Zaps as you’d like. For example, one Zap might be “Send me an SMS every time I get a new email”. A Task is counted every time we move a piece of data or take some action on your behalf during a pay period or month. Some services on Zapier are marked Premium. The system requires an appropriate plan in order to enable any Zaps with Premium services as the trigger or action.
Now use Freshbooks to retain your customers which is also cost-effective marketing!
