When did your career in modeling begin? Why did you want to become a model?
My career in modeling commenced two years ago. In 2009, I started taking better care of my body and begin fitness bootcamp classes where I met the fabulous plus designer, Monif C. Once I took a look at the beautiful and confident plus models on her website, I knew I wanted in.
I’m currently working with the Brock Agency and True Model Management.
I wanted to become a model to show that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Most of all, I want to encourage younger girls to love and accept their bodies. When I was younger, I suffered with body image and thought I didn’t look good enough. I often volunteer with an organization, Girls Inc. and promoting self-acceptance is one of their objectives. I’m grateful to be setting a good example of this.
Do you feel you are helping to create a positive image for plus-size women?
Absolutely. I live a full and fulfilling life. On a daily bases I exercise, eat right, take time out for spiritual practices, keep a gratitude journal, enjoy the company of friends and family, I take time for myself and I’m living my dream. I think I create a positive image for all women.
What are your favorite ways to stay in shape?
Oh, I LOVE Beachbody products because they’re fun and they work. As a matter of fact I just finished shooting an infomercial for the Slim in 6 program which is a low impact workout. It was perfect for me due to a knee injury that I have. I also enjoy Zumba. I never feel like I’m exercising, instead it’s just one big ole party.
Are there any new fitness workouts that you want to try?
The bane of my sanity is monotony, I love to switch up my workouts!
1. Channeling my inner Cirque de Soleil, I would like to try Aerial Fabric Fitness.
2. I think Trampoline Fitness would be fun. I would just need a really great sports bra to contain my Ds.
3. I’ve done spinning but I’ve heard Soul Cycle is on a whole other level. Just the name sounds like it produces such an adrenaline rush.
