Redemption comes in many flavors, but when a character has done so many horrible things to so many people, can the path of redemption become a realistic destination? On the July 25 episode of “General Hospital”, everything centered around Franco (Roger Howarth) either directly or indirectly as his march towards joining the land of redeemed characters continue.
Glioma in the frontal lobe is what Patrick (Jason Thompson) describes as a tumor that may have affecting Franco’s judgement and emotions. Removing the tumor is complicated and may even result in death. As Franco awakens in his hospital bed after believing he was Jason and kidnapping Danny, he is confused and knows something is wrong inside his head. He remembers Carly (Laura Wright) saving him and when Diane visits, he immediately asks for her. At that moment Sam (Kelly Monaco) thanks Carly for saving Danny and also Franco who she needs to stay alive as a possible donor. She also questions Carly on why she didn’t walk away from Franco, a man she claims to hate. Later Patrick explains to Franco the risks of the surgery and risks of not having the surgery. Carly is there again to talk Franco into having the surgery. Her head is telling her she is doing it for Danny but inside her heart she may be doing it for another reason.
Temptations of the heart keep bringing Kiki (Kristen Alderson) and Michael (Chad Duell) together. On Wednesday, Kiki visits Michael’s apartment and the two again talk about staying away from each other and moving on. Kiki has moved on by accepting Morgan’s (Bryan Craig) proposal, and Michael has tried to move on by sleeping with Penny, who comes out of his room as he is talking to Kiki. Kiki shows jealously by storming out. Meanwhile at the Quartermaine mansion, Morgan tells Ava (Maura West) that he is marrying Kiki to keep her away from Michael. Ava is concerned about Kiki running into Silas (Michael Easton) and telling her that he, not Franco, is her father. If that secret is exposed, Ava will lose out on some Quartermaine money so she has Franco sign a proxy right before his surgery. She does this after another run-in with Silas, which further drives his suspicions.
Brad is a character that will be in need of some redemption, if he sticks around. Felix (Marc Anthony Samuel) confronts Brad about blackmailing Michael. He knows Brad is helping Britt fake an illness and also fake a paternity test that shows Patrick as her baby daddy. There does seem to be something deeper driving Felix besides trying to help his friends. He is tired of seeing Brad get away with things at the hospital and knows he is a shady figure. Later, after Brad threatens to tell Monica about her grandson Michael “banging” his cousin, Felix goes to Michael and asks for a favor. Will Michael end up being the key to uncovering Britt and Brad’s scheme? What is really driving Felix? Perhaps his background will be developed further as this storyline continues and hopefully comes to an end soon.
Elsewhere in Port Charles, Scotty (Kin Shriner) gave Laura (Genie Francis) an ultimatum regarding her care for Luke (Anthony Geary). He doesn’t understand why she needs to run off to save Luke. Laura tells him it is because of her children. She also makes Scotty promise that their marriage will still be there waiting when she returns. Kiki is there for Franco just before he goes into surgery. The two have a nice father/daughter bond and even resulted in her calling him “dad”. Morgan is there for Kiki and when he slips and mentions their engagement, his mother Carly is right there and raises and eyebrow. Sam’s hopes of a donor for Danny are kept alive when it is revealed that Franco is a perfect match, but he will need to come out of the surgery alive. The redemption continues.
