In soap operas, it is the characters with the most issues that make them the most interesting and complex. Villains are intriguing and those with mysterious pasts drive the viewer’s interest. ‘General Hospital’ has quite a few of those characters and they were on full display in the episode on June 10.
Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) is far from a perfectly normal human being but the complexity of her character is developing her into someone viewers love to hate. Using a pregnancy and faking an illness just to try to drive a wedge into Patrick and Sabrina’s relationship is devious and at times annoying but there is something deeper behind Britt’s plan. Felix (Marc Samuel) has called Britt’s number, which led her to letting down her guard just a little bit but Felix clearly isn’t buying her scheme. The back and forth banter between the two is soapy but it also revealed some insecurity in both characters when it comes to parental guidance. Britt blames her bitchy ways on her mother and daddy and Felix showed a moment of vulnerability when his parents were mentioned. Britt will definitely continue to scheme to stay ahead of Felix and Sabrina’s suspicions, but ultimately all flawed characters come to face a fall before the process of redemption begins.
The current king of redemption is the character of Franco (Roger Howarth). Carly’s (Laura Wright) sudden fascination with getting revenge and “offing” the crazy, sociopathic artist is odd even though her anger is justified. Carly was in complete mama bear mode in her faceoff with Franco who continues to show remorse and try to convince Carly that he would never intentionally hurt Michael or Jocelyn. There is something off about this version of Franco. The odd way he looked at the toy Carly returned to him seems to indicate he either doesn’t remember or he may not be who he thinks he is. Carly for sure isn’t buying Franco’s sincerity and called Shawn to turn back on the hit that Sonny previously ordered. She lured Franco to the Metro Court to set him up as the perfect target for Shawn.
Connie (Kelly Sullivan) and Olivia (Lisa LoCierco) continued to bond as cousins. Their talk about relationships and Sonny hinted at Olivia’s true feelings for Sonny. They do share a son, but up until a few weeks ago, their relationship remained on a friendship level. As Connie talked about the man she missed, Olivia reminisced about the close moments her and Sonny recently shared. Another love triangle may be developing and one that may challenge the two cousins who have developed their closeness again.
Elsewhere Sonny and Dante shared a father and son moment discussing Lulu and Connie. Laura returned from her honeymoon and was delighted that her daughter got her memory back. There is something off about Lulu but it is good to see that she is back to herself. Patrick and Sabrina finally got to enjoy their first date in which Sabrina confessed to Patrick that she had alternative motives when she volunteered to share her apartment with Britt. Shawn and Alexis shared their feelings for one another before Shawn ran off to do his “job”. At the Metro Court, Sonny interrupted a dinner between Carly and Franco while Shawn set up the perfect target to shoot Franco. Olivia saw a vision of a bloody Sonny and ran to warn him of potential danger. Just as she jumped in front of Franco, a shot fired.
