The end of July is here so that means one thing. Back to school shopping. Whether your child is starting school this year or finishing school, fall trends for girls are basically the same across the board just with a few tweeks to make them age appropriate. Get a head start now on your shopping and take advantage of some of the great deals at your favorite store or local mall. Not sure what this back to school season’s trends are? Here’s a list of some of the hottest trends for the 2013-14 school year.
Skirts: Not just your ordinary plain skirts either but brightly colored mini-skirts and printed mini skirts layered over leggings, tights or worn with knee high socks are the way to go this season. Just remember to not go too short!
Bold Blazer: Brightly colored blazers are a great addition to balance out a mini skirt or skinny jeans. Look for colors that are bold like orange, hot pink and even striped. Christian Siriano’s blazer from Sam’s Club is the perfect go to blazer!
Leggings: Still a hot trend, for school look for leggings that come in plaids, neon colors unique patterns like galaxy print or literal animal print. Pair with argyle socks or ruched socks.
Quirky Tops: Look for tops in patterns and prints like plaid and tribal as well as literal animal prints like swallows and giraffes. Don’t forget to look for ‘techy tops’ with a vintage feel from your favorite throwback video game, superhero or TV show. Lastly, don’t forget to rock tops with crosses and Union Jack and quirky sayings. Just remember to keep it rated ‘G’!Skinny Jeans: Still ever popular, this season is all about distressed. Look for jeans that are faded and distressed as well as brightly colored and patterned. Don’t be afraid to wear white after Labor Day as white skinny jeans will be widely popular.
High Waisted Jeans: These aren’t your mom’s jeans anymore! Meant to fit and flatter just about every body shape, look for a pair with a straight leg cut (not as tight as skinny jeans) and pair with a button up oxford or high collar crop top.
Hats: Never worry about a bad hair day again! For school, rock a wide variety of hats ranging from wide brimmed hats for the boho chic gal, to beanies for the urban girl and even athletic caps sporting your favorite animal for the athletic type.
Boots: There’s no height requirement for boots this season as anything goes! From ankle booties to wellies and even knee high boots all look great paired up with leggings, skirts and skinny jeans.
Sneakers: The easiest footwear ever now gives you a wide variety to choose from. From bold brightly patterned Vans and Converse to high top wedges, don’t start school with your favorite kicks.
Ballet Flats: When in a hurry slip into a pair of ballet flats. Pair them up with ruched socks for an ultra girly look or be funky with a pair of leopard or any animal print.
Jewelry: Want to make a bold statement? Try out some funky jewelry! From cross inspired necklaces to angel wing earrings, let your jewelry make a statement for you. Try something unique like comic inspired jewelry or evil eye bracelets. Layer necklaces over a plain top for an edgy look or pin a bold brooch in a unique design.
Nerd Glasses: Yup the geek factor is still alive! Regardless of whether you need glasses or not, rock your inner geek with a pair of nerd glasses in black, tortoise inspired or even in bold colors to match your outfit.
Now that you have the basics for back to school shopping, remember that there are no rules in fashion so don’t be afraid to break a few and step outside of the box to find what works for you!
