The sought-after hairstyle that makes a comeback every single summer? Beach-y waves. Tousled, loose, care-free, lived-in tresses are what every girl yearns for. For girls that frequent the beach, the sea salt in ocean water provides grit and texture to the hair so when it air-dries, it looks a bit bouncier and wavy. But if you don’t live within driving distance to the ocean, you may be at a loss what to do.
Hot tools like curling irons and wands can create similar waves, if messed with and scrunched enough, but you could also opt for styling products like Alterna’s Bamboo Beach line. Alterna has come out with a replenishing leave-in conditioner, a texturizing wave spray, and a refreshing dry shampoo so you can spray, scrunch, and tousle your way to beach-y hair goodness.
Better yet, this line smells incredible–like mango and coconut–and is free of nasty ingredients like sulfates, parabens, and petrochemicals. Read on to learn more about Alterna’s Bamboo Beach hairline. (PS– it’s limited edition so get it while you can!)
Alterna Bamboo Beach Sun Recovery Spray
If you’re looking for a lightweight leave-in conditioner that smells like a tropical drink, this one’s for you. Alterna’s Bamboo Beach Sun Recovery Spray is great to use during the hot summer months as it replenishes and revitalizes hair that tends to get dry and parched in the sun. Even if it’s not hot where you live, this stuff smells amazing and leaves hair feeling soft and looking shiny.
It actually smells so good, it makes for a great hair “perfume” anytime of the day. Find this bamboo shoot-shaped bottle at alternahaircare.com, Ulta, Folica.com, Nordstrom, and Beautybar.com for $20.
Alterna Bamboo Beach Summer Ocean Waves
All waves sprays are not created equal. While most do contain sea salt, not all of them leave your hair feeling so great. Some are so harsh, they’ll leave your hair feeling super dry, gummy, frizzy, and dirty. If that’s not the look you were going for, try Alterna’s Summer Ocean Waves. Like its leave-in conditioner counterpart, this spray smells amazing–like mango and coconut–and creates soft waves without all that harshness. It’s great to use on air-dried hair or day-old hair that’s been curled and needs to be refreshed. Spray and scrunch it in to create lived-in beach waves.
And aside from the delicious scent, the packaging makes this spray something you’ll want to showcase on your vanity. The inside of the bottle has an image of ocean waves foaming at the shore. Come on! I know I’m not the only one who’s a sucker for inner-packaging images (SmartWater’s goldfish and duck get me every time).

Alterna Bamboo Beach Mango Coconut Refreshing Dry Shampoo
Kind of like using a salt shaker in your hair, but a whole lot nicer. Alterna Bamboo Beach Mango Coconut Refreshing Dry Shampoo isn’t one of those spray-on dry shampoos. There’s a twist knob that reveals a few holes like you’d find on a seasoning jar. Shake a bit onto your roots and massage in whenever your hair needs a bit of refreshing.
Like the rest of the products in this line, this smells amazing. It’s not the most potent in terms of eliminating all signs of oiliness, but it does a good job of adding volume and a fresh, fruity scent (in case you’ve got a bit of the summer-sweaty-funk going on–this is awesome to combat that).
Not the most travel-friendly if you don’t screw the cap back on correctly, but it does come in a travel size for $10, as well as a full size for $20.
