Today May 30, 2013 Wizards of the Coast revealed that Gifts Ungiven will be reprinted in their upcoming “Magic: The Gathering” set “Modern Masters” in an update to the visual spoiler on www.DailyMtg.com.
Gifts Ungiven – 3U
Search your library for up to four cards with different names and reveal them. Target opponent chooses two of those cards. Put the chosen cards into your graveyard and the rest into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
What’s better than searching your deck for one card to put into your hand? Getting two of them. Despite the fact your opponent chooses which two cards are put into your hand and graveyard, you’ll still come out ahead in card advantage. Abusing Gifts Ungiven takes a little forethought, however it’s easily managed in a deck containing lots of “silver bullets” to choose from.
Suppose you need a board sweeper. Searching your deck for Supreme Verdict, Terminus, Day of Judgment, and Phyrexian Rebirth forces your adversary to put two of them into your hand. You can apply that same logic to targeted removal, card draw, and threats.
Like casting huge spells? Search up Urza’s Tower, Urza’s Power Plant, Urza’s Mine, and Vesuva. Modern decks are notoriously light on basic lands, and recurring Ghost Quarter over again and again with Life from the Loam will put your opponent in a lock.
Cards that provide a Regrowth-like effect and Snapcaster Mage can help ensure you end up with the card you really want even if it hits your graveyard. With targets like Unburial Rites your opponent will be in for a world of trouble regardless of which zone it ends up in.
How will you use Gifts Ungiven?
