OCEANSIDE Calif.- Timothy Lambesis lead singer of Grammy-nominated Christian heavy-metal band, As I Lay Dying, was arrested at a Barnes & Noble bookstore after allegedly trying to hire an undercover detective to murder his wife, according to the San Diego Country Sheriff’s Department.
On May 7th, the 32, year old frontman allegedly gave the detective an envelope containing $1,000, photos of his wife, security codes to get into her house, and even “hit” dates for when he’d have his kids–times that he allegedly told the detective would be perfect for his alibi.
Authorities began investigating the singer about a week prior to his arrest after they said they got word he had allegedly approached someone in a gym and asked if the individual knew anyone who would kill his wife of eight years, according to Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso.
Lambesis later met with the undercover agent posing as a hit man — code name “Red” — according to Grasso.
“Red” asked Lambesis if he wanted his wife of eight years gone, and the defendant replied, “Yes, that’s what I want,” the prosecutor alleged.
Lambesis was booked at the Vista Detention Facility on May 7th on suspicion of solicitation to commit murder. He pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $3 million.
The band quickly made a statement to fans on the official As I Lay Dying website:
“MAY 8, 2013
To our fans,
As we post this, the legal process is taking it’s course and we have no more information than you do. There are many unanswered questions, and the situation will become clearer in the coming days and weeks. We’ll keep you informed as best we can.
Our thoughts right now are with Tim, his family, and with everyone else affected by this terrible situation – and with our fans, whom we love and draw strength from.
Thank you for understanding, and as always, for your support of As I Lay Dying.

May 17th, 2013, Friday, at the Vista Courthouse in a 90-minute hearing Judge David Berry reduced Lambesis’ bail from $3 million to $2 million.
Several dozen family members and friends of Meggan Lambesis came to court. Anjuli Paschall was one of a group of friends wearing yellow hearts with white ribbon.
“We wish he didn’t lower bail, but we’re hoping he still can’t make it, that Meggan will be safe. That’s what we care about the most, that she and her kids are safe,” Paschall said.

The couple had filed for divorce last September. According to the Associated Press the divorce documents indicated that the Grammy-nominated singer’s split from his estranged wife was amicable.
According to Meggan, the only noticeable changes in her husband was his new compulsion with body building and that he was constantly texting and Tweeting from his phone.
Although Lambesis only saw his adopted children 10 hours a week, Meggan claimed that he was always distracted with social media.
Until Lambesis’ arrest, Meggan said she felt no reason to fear him. According to Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso, Meggan is very fearful for her life and for the safety of her children, “Who else has he talked to?“
As for Lambesis’ motive behind wanting his wife killed–that’s still a mystery.
On May 16, 2013, As I Lay Dying announced to fans that they were canceling tour dates for the time being.
“To our fans,
In light of recent events, As I Lay Dying will unfortunately not be taking part in the upcoming tour with Killswitch Engage. Given the circumstances, we feel that it is best for the band to be off the road while the current situation gets sorted. We’d like to thank all of our fans for their ongoing support at this difficult time.
