The stars of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” are under contract for one more season but will season 10 be the last one for the beloved series? Cast member and show creator Shonda Rhimes were quoted in a May 30 report on International Business Times, sharing their thoughts on the question.
With contracts expiring after season 10, the possibility that many of the original players, including Ellen Pompeo and James Pickens, Jr., may not return looms large. This could spell the end of the show. However, if contracts are renewed, there is an equal likelihood that iot will continue.
Patrick Dempsey said on Jimmy Kimmel Live in April, “Well, we have one more left on our contract, and then we’ll see what happens.” Then he added a little something that suggests “Grey’s Anatomy” could go indefinitely, “People keep watching, we’ll keep doing.”
Sarah Drew who plays the naïve but charming April Kepner Tweeted that she wished the show would never end.
If the series ebnded after season 10, there are numerous story lines that would need to be tied up including April’s love triangle with Jackson and Matt, whether or not Dr. Richard Webber survived his electrocution, the budding romance between Alex and Jo, the new parenting exploits of Meredith and Derek, the infidelity crisis for Callie and Arizona and the finale break up between Cristina and Owen. So, there are plenty of reasons to keep “Grey’s Anatomy” alive and well beyond the upcoming season.
What does Shonda Rhimes say about it? The show creator and executive producer says she and her writing team do not view season 10 as the final chapter but beyond that, she wouldn’t comment.
