A listing for Halo Bootcamp was spotted on the Korean Rating Boards website Friday. Microsoft confirmed that it is a real thing. What it is exactly though is unclear thanks to the wonders of translation.
The Halo Bootcamp listing was first spotted by Game Front and is clearly intended to be an online PC title. However, it gets murky from there. A Google translate version of the Korean ratings page indicates that it is related to Halo 3.
Halo 3 first-person point of view of the world based on the contents of the Action Game software going to perform the mission expressed mild violence (third-person point of simple weapons, attack representation and fresh blood description) that the game industry…
However, the Bing translated version drops the Halo 3 reference and replaces it with a third-person point of view.
‘ Halo ‘ as a third-person point of view based on the worldview of the mission is going to be executing an action game of water
Minor violence representation (expressed as mere weaponry, attacks and a third-person point-of-blood description)
Meanwhile, Microsoft responded to inquires from Game Front with the following.
“What’s Bootcamp? It is not related to our Xbox One efforts, or the Reclaimer Saga, but rather a project we’re very enthusiastic about and will have more to say about in the near future.”
For those that don’t know, the Reclaimer saga is the 343 Industries term for the new set of adventures that started with Halo 4.
343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor chimed in on the Halo Bootcamp news on NeoGAF by saying, “You should probably factor that into the nature, type and scale of thing it’s going to be. I will say this though, and only this: it’s cool and something I have always wanted to do.”
Microsoft previously stated that it was interested in finding new ways to explore the Halo universe and there hasn’t been anything PC related for the series since the release of Halo 2 on that platform.
A new Halo television series produced by Steven Spielberg was announced at the Xbox One event this past week and it is assumed that Halo 5 is in the works for the console as well. So what cold Bootcamp be? As Game Front points out, the first graphic novel based on the Halo: The Fall of Reach novel was subtitled Bootcamp but it is unclear at this point if there is any connection other than a potential setting. Could this be an MMO of some kind or something else?
