On Saturday, May 25, Hamptons Magazine kicked off the summer with cover star Brooke Shields. The Hamptons magazine Memorial Day weekend celebration was held at Southampton Social Club. Beautiful Brooke Shields graces the cover of the 350-page issue as Hamptons Magazine celebrates 35 years as the leading luxury lifestyle publication of the Hamptons.
Brooke Shields took a few minutes to speak to me as the media clamored to take her photo. She discussed how she attains balance in her life by reaching out for help when necessary, indicating “it does take a village.” Brooke also mentioned how she enjoys quiet time at her New York home with her family. Her husband, Chris Henchy, loves to cook and makes frittatas for everyone. Even more gorgeous in person, Brooke laughed easily as we commiserated about women balancing work, health and family. She also sets an example for her daughters by maintaining her successful career. Brooke currently plays Colonel Kat Young on “Army Wives.” She will celebrate her 48th birthday on Friday. Brooke looked glamorous wearing dangling earrings by Danielle Queller.
The Hamptons magazine Memorial Day weekend celebration at Southampton Social Club attracted a distinguished crowd of stars and trendsetters. Everyone sipped on Heineken beer and specialty cocktails made with Russian Standard Vodka. There were fresh shucked oysters by Oysters XO. The guests previewed new models by Ferrari/Maserati of Long Island and enjoyed the latest fabulous fashion collection by Minnie Rose.
In the Memorial Day issue of Hamptons magazine, Brooke Shields talks about growing up in the Hamptons social scene. She commented, “Growing up, there’s a social register, but I got taken off the list when I did ‘Pretty Baby.’ My father almost got taken off the social register because my mother got pregnant before they got married.” Brooke also talked about her first crush in the Hamptons. She went to Drew’s house and brought her dishes to the sink. His mother called her mother to tell her not to bring her dish to the sink, as they had people to do that. Brooke’s mother, who rented a one-room apartment over Hildreth’s, said, “Well we don’t have people, and that’s what we do in our house, so to stop this from happening she won’t be coming over anymore.” Brooke Shields and her family will now be enjoying time in their own gracious Southampton home.
Brooke dished about being a public person today versus the 1980’s and said, “Fame doesn’t seem as hostile as it does now; now it feels unsafe” She also talked about the possibility of being on a talk show, indicating she used to shy away from the idea. She now feels, “I’ve always been afraid I don’t have an opinion or I’m nervous about offending somebody. Then I realized I’m perfectly comfortable offending people.” She discussed working on the set of “Army Wives,” and felt, “A lot of other sets people are just punching in the time cards, people are griping a lot, and there’s attitudes with actors – you can feel tension.” In “Army Wives,” she said, “the leads are lovely and it just trickles down from there.”
Hamptons magazine is proud to have the “iconic” Brooke Shields on the cover of the Memorial Day issue that includes “The Supers” and “The Hamptons Power 35.” Publisher Debra Halpert stated, “Hamptons magazine is deeply rooted in the community; it is not just acting as the voice for it.” Everything the magazine does “is to benefit the community in some way.” Editor in chief Samantha Yanks added, “Hamptons has evolved with the community over the past 35 years.”
To celebrate the magazine’s 35th anniversary, the top taste-makers will come together to design bicycles donated by Brooklyn Cruiser. Anticipated designers include Samantha Yanks, Sandra Lee, Elle Tahari and many others. The bikes will be showcased at various locations throughout the Hamptons before being auctioned off at Hamptons’ 35th Anniversary Party on July 12th by long-time Hamptons resident, Rosanna Scotto. After the celebration, bicycles will be available for purchase at CharityBuzz.com.
