The San Antonio city council is proposing legislation that would make it illegal for anyone to hold office that now holds or has held a negative view on homosexuals – including Christians. They have made it clear that there is no regard for religious freedom in their legislation by not allowing for a religious exemption for those holding religious views that would keep them from accepting homosexuality in any of its forms as “normal.” The proposed legislation reads as follows:
“No person shall be appointed to a position if the city council finds that such person has, prior to such proposed appointment, engaged in discrimination or demonstrated a bias, by word or deed, against any person, group or organization on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, age or disability,”
The purpose is transparent. This is just another attempt to make homosexuality and any of it deviant sub-forms acceptable in a society that refuses to accept it without judicial enforcement. With the exception of the last few years, when have you seen the term “gender identity” used?
The city council has taken the standard anti-discrimination clause and inserted sexual orientation and gender identity to ensure their constituents are protected and then added “veteran status” to make it appear that they were protecting a legitimate group that has been wronged.
When was last time someone was discriminated against for their veteran’s status? Almost all employers get a financial break by hiring a veteran. This is obviously legislation written to get the vote of the LGBT community without regard for anyone else.
