The Atlanta Hawks have signed F/C Pero Antić from the Euroleague to a one-year contract. Hawks GM announced the signing in a press release yesterday.
Antić measures 6’11” and has spent the past two seasons playing for the Greek team Olympiakos, which has won the Euroleague championship the past two seasons. The 30-year-old big man averaged 6.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 15.2 minutes in 30 games last season.
“Pero is a skilled and versatile big man who will add depth to our frontcourt,” Ferry said. “He will fit in well with what we’re building and we’re excited to add him to the team.”
Antić has played professionally since 1999, beginning with Rabotnički in his home country of Macedonia. He also has been the captain of the Macedonian National Team, helping the team to the semifinals of EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania. He has also played in Russia, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
Antić will probably help the Hawks towards the end of the bench, as Atlanta is still lacking in size. Despite the addition of former All-Star Elton Brand, the Hawks do not have one experienced player over seven feet tall signed as of yet. Draft picks Lucas Nogueira and Mike Muscala have not signed with the club as of yet.
