Today I had the privilege of interviewing a local colleague, Mateja Petje, who is currently living in Delray Beach, Florida. Check out the archived podcast here at Healthy Baby Boomers Network Radio Show.
Mateja Petje, M.S, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Professional Life Coach in Boca Raton, FL, who has recently embrace a host of holistic, natural and alternative methods for healing. She has more than 10 years of experience as a counselor in the mental health field, having worked at many prominent agencies in Miami-Dade and Broward County such as Switchboard of Miami, Department of Children and Families, Memorial Health Care Systems, Jewish Community Services and Chrysalis Center. With extensive background in working with families and at-risk children and adolescents, she has basically focused upon working with adult couples.
Born in Slovenia, speaking English, Slovenian and Croatian, she got her Bachelor’s Degree in English and Education and worked for the Government of Slovenia as a translator for European Union. Then, after moving to the US in 1997 she was awarded a graduate assistant scholarship from the University of Miami in Coral Gables and graduated with Honors in 2003 with her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. During her internship she worked with cancer patients utilizing holistic approaches, such as guided meditation, as well as a research assistant at University of Miami Department of Pediatrics.
Her working experience and her continual additional training is incorporated into her unique blend of Eastern and Western practices. She has studied and practices several healing modalities including yoga, hypnosis/guided meditation, and Emotional Freedom Technique (“tapping technique”). Her work is particularly effective for treating anxiety, PTSD, depression and other emotional concerns. Mateja has had great success with clients who need more than just a traditional therapy.
Mateja has special interest in working with couples and women. Along with her great capacity for compassion and being genuine due to her own struggles in life, she uses the “Imago” approach in working with couples. Based on the work of Harville and Helen Hendricks, Imago Therapy presumes that couples select an intimate partner who in one way or another resembles the characteristics of their primary caregivers.
Mateja helps clients to explore their childhood issues, emotionally charged conflicts, communication blocks and conflict resolution skills. She also helps clients who are dealing with marital concerns, divorce, infidelity, addictions, life transitions and more. At this point, she is focusing more directly upon healing – letting go of stress and tension – and returning to a sense of calm and balance and emotional peace. She provides an effective “tool box” to help clients deal with challenges in their daily living.
Mateja has put together a reading list that can be found on her website Triglavlifecoaching.com. Her autobiography, “My Journey to Self-Discovery, was ;ublished in 2010 and is available at Lulu.com.”
