Heath Ledger’s father Kim has shared some of his late son’s diary entries he kept while filming “The Dark Knight” in a German documentary series called “Too Young To Die,” according to Friday, May 31 reports from Gossip Cop.
During the documentary Heath Ledger’s father shares, ” “This is the Joker’s diary. In order to inhabit the character, he [Heath] locked himself up in a hotel room for weeks.”
Kim Ledger reveals, “He would do that. He liked to dive into his characters, but this time he really took it up a notch.”
During the film it also shows a page from Ledger’s personal diary which talks about the film’s hospital scene, when his film character, the Joker dresses up as a nurse to confront his enemy Two-Face.
Ledgers’ dad stated that the film scene was particularly interesting because when Heath was a young boy he would play dress up with his sister Kate, who often dresses him as a nurse. offers,
Ledger’s father goes on to reveal, “Before the end of the shooting he wrote ‘bye bye’ on the back of the page,” admitting, “It was hard to see this.”
Ledger died on January 22, 2008 from an accidental “intoxication from prescription drugs”.
His death occurred during editing of The Dark Knight and in the midst of filming his last role as Tony in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. His untimely death cast a sombre shadow over the subsequent promotion of the $180 million Batman production.
During a 2007 interview with the NY Times Heath Ledger stated that the role of the Joker has really taken done a number on him, and had left him unable to sleep.
“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night. … I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.”
During the interview Heath Ledger claims that that he had taken two Ambien pills, after taking just one had not sufficed, and those left him in “a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.”
On January 22, 2008 Heath Ledger was found unconscious in his bed by his housekeeper, Teresa Solomon, and his masseuse, Diana Wolozin, in his fourth-floor loft apartment at 421 Broome Street in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.
Police reports stated that Wolozin, who had arrived early for a business meeting with Ledger, called Ledger’s friend, actress Mary-Kate Olsen, for help. Olsen, who was in California, directed a New York City private security guard to go to the scene.
At 3:26 pm, “[fewer] than 15 minutes after Wolozin first saw him in bed and only a few moments” after first calling Olsen and then calling her a second time to express her fears that Ledger was dead, Wolozin telephoned 9-1-1 “to say that Mr. Ledger was not breathing.” At the urging of the 9-1-1 operator, Wolozin administered CPR, which was unsuccessful in reviving him.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and pronounced Heath Ledger dead removing his body from the apartment six months before “The Dark Knight” was scheduled for release.
Heath Ledger’s autopsy reports revealed that he died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine.”
Heath Ledger left behind one daughter with actress Michelle Williams, Matilda Rose Ledger who was born in 2005.
