Your donation can help ADLA (Amigos de los Animales, Inc.) continue their life saving efforts. Amigos de los Animales, Inc. is a non-profit organization, based in Puerto Rico, dedicated to a wide variety of animal welfare issues. One of their main efforts is to rescue, rehabilitate and find new homes for the strays of Puerto Rico.
The ever-growing population of strays on the island is astounding, there is an estimated 100,000 to 350,000 dogs living as strays in P.R. These dogs struggle day-to-day to survive the elements. Strays often starve to death, are poisoned, run over by motorists, or suffer prolonged painful deaths due to diseases such as Heart worm, Mange, or other life threatening conditions.
The amazing group of animal lovers that volunteer at Piñones Beach Project Shelter, work arduously to rescue strays and provide them with medical care, nutrition, socialization, and above all, love and attention. The shelter is small, and operates out of the private home of President and Executive Director of the ADLA, Adrienne Galler Lastra.
Lastra is a remarkable individual whose love for the island’s “Satos” (a common term used to refer to stray dogs in P.R.) has motivated her to dedicate her life to rescuing and finding forever homes for the dogs that she and ADLA volunteers rescue.
However, as anyone can imagine, running a small shelter funded solely by donations is not easy. At any given time, the Piñones Beach Project Shelter is home to as many as 30+ homeless dogs. Dogs of all ages, including litters of puppies, are often abandoned at the shelter’s doorstep, only adding to the numbers of dogs to feed and care for.
The Piñones Beach Project Shelter does not have a Veterinarian on site; instead, the dogs that are rescued by the ADLA receive medical care from a few local Veterinarians that assist the organization. Veterinary costs are high, and the ADLA finds itself in a difficult financial position. Monetary donations received this year have largely gone to paying off prior Veterinary bills.
The ADLA, is in dire need of donations, all donations go directly towards providing veterinary care, nutrition, and shelter to the countless of strays that arrive at the shelter’s doorstep. They invite you to take a few minutes to find out more about who they are and what they do by visiting their website (Visit ADLA’s official website here).
If you’d like to help this amazing organization, you can donate by sending a check to Amigos de los Animales, HC1, Box 7622, Loiza, P.R. 00772 (payable to “Amigos de los Animales”) or if you would like to make a secure payment through PayPal, you can do so by clicking the “Donate” button featured on the ADLA’s home page.
