Jewelry is a world of opposites where artists try to combine the weight and inflexibility of precious stones with the poise of a necklace sitting delicately on a woman’s neck. Jewelry design takes a special talent. A piece that’s too extravagant can come off as gaudy. A designer must figure out how to balance the elegance of a stone so that it can delicately swing from someone’s ear. That is the kind of balance that only great jewelers can achieve and something that artist and jewelry designer Holly Shannon of Holly Shannon Jewelry (www.hollyshannon.com) has done with her personal jewelry line.
Holly has the talent and savvy to balance the various aspects of jewelry design. As an experienced artist she has years of experience balancing art, style and fashion. Before launching the line, Holly spent years working in sculpture, crafting female figures from clay. She learned how to make fine works of art, long before going into jewelry. She took her experience in the world of fine art and applied it to the world of fine jewelry.

While Holly generally works solo, she has collaborated with name designers such as Rachel Roy and the Design Director of Rocawear, giving Holly’s work the opportunity to be featured on MTV.
However, Holly’s road to jewelry design has not always been an easy one. After a terrible house fire, she was forced to close down her jewelry studio. It was during that period that she added paining to her repertoire, which helped her refine her delicate touch and her understanding of the interplay of colors in her jewelry.
Holly uses a unique material called metal clay that is pure silver ground into a microscopic state that is mixed with binder and water, allowing her to sculpt the precious metals into various shapes. This freedom allows her to make truly one-of-a-kind pieces. Her Cleopatra collection is available at J. Seitz and Company in New Preston, CT, online at hollyshannon.com, and on her official Etsy account HollyShannonJewelry. Holly understands that women like their fashions and jewelry to reflect their mood. They need fashionable yet elegant jewelry that can match all sides of their life whether it’s hanging out for the weekend or accessorizing for an art gallery’s opening night. It takes a delicate balance for a woman to maintain their composure and loveliness in all those different situations, but trust me; Holly understands what it means to maintain such
